1 Digital Poland for Everyone What do we need Broadband for? Monika Jaranowska, PCC 15 November 2006 Knowledge Based Economy Introduction (1/3) Knowledge Based Economy incorporates all sectors of manufacturing and services, which are based on, knowledge which people possess, and knowledge which people have put into computers (e.g. computer software, digital content, portals, other data...) Based on knowledge means knowledge being the major value making factor Electronic economy means wide use of digital products and services to undertake business transactions between firms, public administration and citizens Digital products and services are based on knowledge, because their value depends on the content of knowledge. 1
2 Knowledge Based Economy Introduction (2/3) On the market of services, those which mainly contain intellectual routine work, humans will be gradually eliminated and replaced by computers. The ITC training is becoming a key issue for every profession, it will become a part of basic knowledge similar to the skill of reading and writing. It is extremely important that people posses plenty of Valuable Knowledge and know how to use this knowledge for successful economic activity Knowledge Based Economy Introduction (3/3) The Electronic Economy and Knowledge Based Economy should have a preferred status in government policy instead of giving priority to declining, energy consuming sectors like mining. Such a policy is addressed to secure the future of the young generation It is essential for the future of the young generation to build an economy build on knowledge, this is especially true for poorer regions like Eastern Poland 2

9 INTER THE POLISH SCHOOLNET PROGRAMME POLISH EDUCATION GOES ONLINE! The Programme is a country wide co-operation network of thousands of schools, teachers, pupils, educational NGO s working together to bring Polish education closer to the European Union standards. Since 1998 Interkl@sa has helped to equip schools with computers and Internet access,organized teachers training programs and promoted the use of ICT in the field of education. In co-operation with the Polish- American Freedom Foundation and with the help of Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Centre established at the Polish Academy of Sciences, Interkl@sa has created the first in Poland non-commercial educational portal. 9

11 The purpose of the project is activation of local communities from less-developed and rural areas by developing skills related to Internet use. An interactive and integrated programme aims at reinforcing social skills through better communication and breaking barriers. The scope of the training offer includes subjects related to the 4 main terms of the information society: eadministration ehealth elearning ebusiness 11

Almost 30 different courses all over the country! We offer: Advanced Cisco Academy Courses, but also computer basis, f. ex. ECDL (European Computer Driving License). New training products: iexec: Global iexecutive Forum. Business Essentials Program. (Project Management) and e-business - implementing new business applications. 14 Learning Approach Business Essential - consists of an on-line course using Learning Management System, an instructor led training, online hosting and support, and all education materials, including instructor guides, student workbooks, classroom handouts, and tools. Reflective learning approach is designed to promote deeper understanding and put learning in a meaningful context to promote application and continuous learning E-Learning modules reviewed first to help students understand concepts/cases and practice tools 14
