1 Hardware Announcement May 2, 2006 IBM p5 590 and 595 DDR2 memory and miscellaneous features broaden your choices Overview Three new 533 MHz DDR2, CUoD memory cards are available for use with both p5-590 and p5-595 servers. Memory activation features are available to facilitate configuration and use of these memory features. With the exception of 32 GB DDR1 memory, p5-590 and p5-595 DDR1 memory will be orderable only as MES upgrades after DDR2 memory becomes available. The current 4 GB (non-cuod) DDR2 memory card (#7814) can be used in the same processor book with the new CUoD DDR2 memory cards being announced. Also being made available with the new DDR2 memory features is memory conversion from the current DDR1 memory cards to DDR2 memory cards. Feature conversions are always implemented on a quantity of one for quantity of one basis. Multiple existing features may not be converted to a single new feature. Single existing features may not be converted to multiple new features. Additionally, the p5-595 SMP server will now include a new 16-way POWER5 Turbo Processor Book as part of the minimum system configuration for all new system orders and is planned to begin shipping on May 12, To assist in upgrading existing systems, a feature conversion to the new Turbo Processor Book technology is available. Use feature number 8969 to upgrade from a p5-590 with Standard Processor Books (#7981) to a p5-595 server. Also use feature number 8969 to upgrade from a p5-595 Standard Processor Book (#7988) to a new Turbo Processor Book. The new Turbo processor technology is incompatible with the previously released Turbo Processor Books (#7813 and #7731); therefore, all server configurations for the new Turbo Processor Books must specify the same Turbo Processor Book feature for existing p5-595 servers.
