Some items are specific to a particular model of the M14 rifle. In such cases, the item Description or Comments will state which model, e.g., M14 NM Rifle. The author may contacted by at leeace99@hotmail.com FSN, NSN, SNL, FSC and CAGE: The four alphanumeric character code starting with B, such as B053 found at the end of the stock number was from the Standard Nomenclature System (SNL). Each four character signified what system the part was for, e.g., B053 was the M14 Rifle. The SNL four character code appears on some M14 parts packaging until the mid-1960s. The acronyms for Federal Stock Number and National Stock Number are FSN and NSN, respectively. If a NSN is not available for a part, the FSN is listed if it ever existed. In the early 1970s, a two digit Nation Code was added between the first four digits and the three digit string. The United States uses 00 and 01 for its Nation Code. With implementation of a Nation Code, the National Stock Number system was established. Example: Federal Stock Number for the M14 gas cylinder = National Stock Number for the M14 gas cylinder = Some of the M14 Rifle items may no longer be in the U. S. military or federal supply system. An example is the 1960s production wood M14 stock. The first four digits of the FSN and NSN is the Federal Supply Code (FSC). Two examples are 1005 for small arms through 30 mm and 9150 for lubricants. Sometimes the government contractor for a part can be identified by a code on the packaging. This five alphanumeric character code is known as the Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code. Each contractor is assigned its own unique CAGE Code. For example, 3A5E1 is Smith Enterprise, Inc. in Tempe, AZ. Abbreviations used in this document: FSN = Federal Stock Number M14 = M14 Rifle M14 DMR = M14 DMR Rifle
