1 Windows 10: Setting up CPP VPN Requirements: Windows PC computer running Windows 10. The VPN connection requires a BroncoName and network password for authentication purposes. You will use your network account credentials to access the VPN. To set your network password, see the section How do I set my Network password? at - Your_Account: 1. Click or touch the Windows Start logo, and Settings. Some keyboards have the Windows Start button. 2. From the Setting windows, find, click or touch Network & Internet 3. Click or touch VPN, and Add a VPN connection

Fill-in the information below and scroll down to fill out your username and network password. -For VPN provider click or touch for the option Windows (built-in) -Connection name: CPP-VPN or cppvpn -Server name or address: vpn.cpp.edu -VPN Type: Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPSec (L2TP/IPSec) - Type of sign-in info: User name and password -User name (optional): your_bronco_name -Password (optional): your_network_password -If you re configuring the device for a non public computer, check mark the option Remember my sign-in info -Click or touch Save when is completed, and close all active windows. 5. Touch or click the "Windows Start button" -> Settings -> Network & Internet -> VPN 6. Select the VPN connection created previously, and click on "Change Adapter options"

3 7. Again, select the VPN connection created previously, right click and select Properties 8. Click on the "Security" tab Review of the Security tab. Type of VPN: Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPSec (L2TP/IPSec) Date encryption: Maximum strength encryption (disconnect if server declines) Authentication: Use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) Microsoft: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) (encryption enable) 9. For type of VPN section, click on the "Advance settings" 10. Check mark the option "Use preshared key for authentication. Login below to view the password and enter it in this field. a Click Ok. 12. Next, click on the Networking tab a. For each "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) 13. Click Ok. b. Click the Properties button. i. Click the "Advanced..." button. If you re unable to open it, skip to step 14*. 1. De-select "Use default gateway on remote networks". 2. Click the OK button to close the Advanced... window. ii. Click the OK button to close the Properties window. c. Click the OK button to close the Properties window. *If you were able to click on the button Advance... and the window opened on step 12b.i above. Then, you re done. Skip to step Normally, we would be finished by now, but the next steps are necessary due to a bug with early releases of Windows 10.

4 15. The next tasks consist of: a. Open PowerShell (see step 16) b. Execute the commands (see step 17a-c) c. Verify and close the PowerShell window. (see step 17 notes) d. Connect to VPN. (See step 18) 16. Open PowerShell. And run it as an administrator a. Search for PowerShell b. Right click on Windows Powershell. Select "Run as administrator" Select yes. PowerShell windows is below: 17. Executing the commands: There are three commands to execute. a. Get-VpnConnection b. Set-VpnConnection -Name CPP-VPN -SplitTunneling $True c. Get-VpnConnection NOTE 1: CPP-VPN is the name for my VPN connection configuration. Yours might be different. Replace it accordingly. If your VPN name has spaces, you might try to enclose it with double quotes or don t use spaces on the name. NOTE 2. Pay attention to the first red box below. It will show your VPN connection name. NOTE 3: The second command basically change the system setting for SplitTunneling from False to True. See the Green arrows. NOTE 4: We execute the first command a second time. It is to simply confirm that the value was changed from False to True. Verify your result with the windows below.

5 18. Connect to VPN: There are two methods to find the VPN connection that was configured earlier. a. Find the wireless or wire icon on the taskbar---bottom right hand side of the screen. See screenshot 1. b. Click or touch the windows Windows Start logo. i. Click or touch Settings ii. Click or touch Network & Internet then VPN iii. Click or touch CPP-VPN iv. Click or touch Connect.
