2 In accordance with the present agreement between the Fachbereich Informatik Fachhochschule Hannover (hereafter named FBI-FHH) and the Facultad de Informática Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (hereafter named ), the two institutions express their intention to strengthen their cooperation in the field of higher education and to develop student exchanges in keeping with the spirit of the European Union. This cooperation brings together the two institutions in the fields of higher education and research and is a part of the framework of programmes put into action by the European Union (Erasmus/Socrates, Leonardo, etc.). FBI-FHH and have decided to undertake student exchanges leading to a double diploma: the diploma delivered by is defined below in Article 1; the diploma (master degree) delivered by FBI-FHH is defined below in Article 2. In the text that follows the levels of study are given with reference to the Spanish Selectividad, and to the German Kultusminister-Konferenz (KMK the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany). In the text that follows, for each student concerned, the distinction is made between the «home institution» FBI- FHH, respectively, and his/her «host institution»,, respectively FBI-FHH. The following articles aim to define the conditions in which students of the two institutions can obtain the double diploma. Article 1: diploma is habilitated by the Spanish Ministry of Education, to deliver the DIPLOMA DE INGENIERO EN INFORMÁTICA POR LA UPM (MASTER'S DEGREE) after 5 yearly courses and a Master Thesis. Article 2: FBI-FHH diploma The FBI-FHH delivers the MASTER OF SCIENCE (in Computer Science) as a graduate second degree program of a 2 years course including a Master Thesis. The course is accredited due to the formal accreditation process defined by the German Kultusministerkonferenz. Article 3: Exchange semesters The exchange program should take place during the advanced studies, i.e. the last year of the total study program, which corresponds to a Master Course according to the Bologna Process. In order to obtain the double diploma, FBI-FHH students or students must complete one year of their advanced studies in the other institution (host institution) including the Final Term Project/Master Thesis, according to the programme defined in Annexe A. Article 4: Teaching language To make student (and faculty) exchange easier, both institutions offer parts of their study program in English. Both institutions ensure that the visiting students can attend an adequate English study program during the exchange periods defined in Annexe A. Article 5: Application documents Each institution will provide application documents for its partner. These documents will be based on the European Credit Transfer System forms: «application form for the student», «learning agreement», «transcript of records». The documents should be downloadable from the institution web site. (see Annexe B for, Annexe C for FBI-FHH). Article 6: Candidate selection Each institution will present to its partner, by 1 July at the latest, a list of candidates pre-selected by the home institution: the applications will be communicated by electronic mail by an official person designated by the institution. The home institution will be notified of definitive acceptance by the host institution at the latest by 15 2/6

3 July of the same year. The programme of study in the host institution begins at the start of the academic year following the selection. Article 7: Tuition fees and insurance Students participating in an exchange programme continue to pay tuition or registration fees in their home institution. No tuition or registration fees are paid to the host institution. The host institution may require the visiting student to present insurance papers covering individual responsibility and medical insurance; see Annexe B and Annexe C for specific insurance requirements. Article 8: Tutoring students The host institution will name a member of the teaching staff to tutor each student. The teacher will act as intermediary with the home institution during the entire study period. The visiting students will have access to all the study resources available to students of the institution. An electronic address will be attributed to each student, allowing the home institution to remain in contact with the student during the study period in the host institution. Article 9: Administrative and academic regulations Throughout the study period in the host establishment, the visiting student is subject to the administrative and academic regulations of the host institution, including those concerning the attribution of an electronic address, mentioned above. Article 10: Validation of studies by the host institution At the end of the course of study undertaken by the visiting student, the host institution will send to the home institution details of the grades obtained by the student and will indicate if the student has satisfactorily completed all of the study semesters required. Students who validate all their study semesters in the host institution obtain the double diploma. Article 11: Obtaining the double diploma A student who fulfils the conditions for the double diploma will receive a diploma from each of the two institutions (see Articles 1 and 2). Article 11: Validity of the agreement The present agreement becomes effective upon ratification by the official authorities. It is valid for two years and can be renewed by tacit agreement for two year periods. Should one institution plan to withdraw from the agreement, it must give notice six months in advance, on the understanding that any ongoing actions should be carried through to a successful conclusion. 4 Annexe A: Exchange periods The exchange program is related to the advanced studies, i.e. the two last years of the total study program, which corresponds to a Master Course according to the Bologna Process. In order to obtain the double diploma, FBI- FHH students or students must complete one year of their advanced studies in the other institution (host institution). That means 60 ECTS credits and the Final Term Project/Master Thesis (in the case of incoming students to and one Master course and the Master Thesis for incoming student to FHH). The table below compares the course of study followed by a FBI-FHH student and that of a student involved in the double diploma programme, taking as starting point the first year of the FBI-FHH Bachelor program or after the Spanish Selectividad. The exchange begins in the fifth year of study at or FBI-FHH and ends at the end of the last semester of the fifth year of study and after the defence of the Final Term Project or the Master Thesis. Visiting students must complete two semesters at the host university, including the time required for the development of a research/industrial project or in writing the Final Term Project/Master Thesis.
