1 Directions for African Landmark Nomenclature Cards 1. Print out copy of 3 part cards and control cards Laminate for durability. Cut apart description and labels from 3 part cards. 2. As an introductory lesson, students can match the correct picture to the control card and then find the label and description that matches the correct picture. *** Students can actually place the picture on top of the picture, description on top of the description and label on top of the label in the introductory phase. 3. For more advanced work, student keeps control cards facing down and then matches the description and label to the picture without the assistance of the control card. The Sphinx of Giza This landmark, located in Egypt, is the memorial temple of Pharoah Ramesses II. Scenes of military victory, especially of the Battle of Kadesh, are found on the pylons and outer walls. Ramesseum

3 This landmark is located on the Zambezi River in southern Africa. At108 meters tall, it is one of the largest falls in the world. Victoria Falls This landmark is the only ancient Seven Wonders of the World still in existence. These structures, whose construction is thought to have been completed around 2560 B.C., served as a tomb for the Pharoah and storage for the items he believed he needed in the afterlife. Pyramids of Giza

4 This landmark consists of two large rock temples in southern Egypt which was carved ot of the mountainside during the reign of Pharoah Ramesses II. It was relocated in the 1960s to avoid destruction during the creation of Lake Nasser. Abu Simbel The Great Temple of Amen stands in this conglomeration of pylons, temples, and other structures in Egypt. Thirty pharoahs contributed to the construction of these buildings.
