3 DUE DATES: All assignments are to be turned in by the due date. Failure to submit assignments by the due date may result in lowering of your grade for the assignment and on your course grade. Problems with Angel access, in most cases, will not be an acceptable reason for late assignments. Students who have Angel access problems which result in an assignment coming in late, must provide documentation from the Angel Help Desk, indicating that help was sought in a reasonable time frame prior to the due date. You are encouraged to complete your assignments and give yourself enough leadtime in case you do experience an access problem. HELP DESK FOR ANGEL: Assistance is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day for students who are experiencing angel access problems. The help desk during the midnight and weekend hours may not be able to answer your questions immediately, due to staffing and other related issues. They will however, make a note of your call and will return it within a few hours. During normal business hours and until midnight, the help desk will normally be able to provide immediate assistance. Angel Help Desk tel: (North America and Hawaii) Angel Help Desk tel: (local) INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL: Web based instruction. Students are expected to be active participants as evidenced by participation in the Message Board discussions, group work as assigned, and completion of assignments and readings. Anonymous postings on any of the course Message Boards is not in keeping with professional conduct and will not be permitted. Postings on the Message Boards are expected to adhere to the Professional Development Guideline related to appropriate communication with peers and faculty [see the College of Nursing Undergraduate Student Handbook available at for complete reference] Course Faculty will respond and give feedback to postings on the Message Boards and other assignments every Wednesday. EVALUATION: The syllabus is a tool to help you plan your time and not an irrevocable contract. Information presented in the syllabus and the accompanying assignment schedule is subject to change. The instructors will announce any deviations from the syllabus via Angel. The student is held responsible for all materials covered in class and for any changes in the syllabus that are announced via Angel. You must complete the mastery quizzes for each lesson and earn the mastery score specified for each quiz. You will be given 2 tries to achieve the mastery score. If you are unsuccessful after 2 tries, faculty will prescribe remediation for which you will be required to provide documentation [for example, written notes]. Mastery quizzes are open book. All mastery quizzes must be completed to meet the course requirements to earn a passing grade. 3

4 Research critique = 30% Participation [in Message Room, and completion of mastery quizzes] = 10% Theory paper = 30% Midterm exam = 30% The Michigan State University 4.0 grading system will be used to calculate final course grades below 65 POLICY FOR EXAMINATIONS: Students are expected to take examinations on scheduled dates unless previous arrangements have been made with course faculty. Students MUST contact an instructor PRIOR to an examination if they are unable to take the exam at the scheduled time. A statement from a health provider may be required for an illness excuse. An alternate exam may be used for make-up exams. Essay exams may be used as alternate exams. Make-up examinations will normally need to be completed within ONE week. Academic Policies: Academic Dishonesty: Article of the Academic Freedom Report states that the student shares with the faculty the responsibility for maintaining the integrity of scholarship, grades, and professional standards. In addition, the College of Nursing adheres to the policies on academic honesty as specified in General Student Regulations 1.0, Protection of Scholarship and Grades, and in the all-university Policy on Integrity of Scholarship and Grades, which are included in Spartan Life: Student Handbook and Resource Guide. Student who plagiarize, fabricate, or falsify data (written documentation in journals, critical incidents, number of clinical hours, for example) will receive a 0.0 for the course. You may access Spartan Life at In compliance with the Professional Development Guidelines as noted in the progression through the major policies in the College of Nursing Undergraduate Student Handbook, (available at students must demonstrate: 1. appropriate interpersonal relations and communication with clients, peers, faculty and other health care personnel 2. responsible fulfillment of class and practicum obligations, including provision of safe nursing care in the practicum setting; and 3. honesty and integrity in all academic and professional matters.
