NITO advises and guides its members and NITO representatives who conduct local negotiations. Wage statistics NITO draws up annual wage statistics based on members wage data. As a NITO member you can contact our legal aid services directly. Our lawyers handle more than requests annually, and negotiate and promote our members interests throughout Norway. A private market lawyer charges from to per hour. As a member of NITO, we can offer you free legal assistance if necessary all the way to the Supreme Court. Our legal services are in high demand and adds vital security to your job situation. Legal services in the work related area are usually not covered in ordinary insurance policies. We also offer courses on management and finance. All courses are offered to members at a discount. BFI has dedicated courses for biomedical laboratory scientists offering the BFI members a 50 per cent discount. NITO Takst offers appraisal education for candidates with a relevant background in civil engineering. Conferences NITO helps organise business policy conferences and relevant professional conferences, like the Modification Conference and FRONT Leadership Conference. NITO offers free career guidance, whether you are unemployed, a recent graduate or have been working for a while. The service includes online guidance and an individual appointment with an adviser. Employment contract review If you re having questions about your employment contract, you re free to contact our legal advice service directly. Scholarships NITO members employed by NHO-associated companies, are elligible to apply for a professional development scholarship, limited to NOK Educational support for the biomedical laboratory scientists The Norwegian Institute of Biomedical Science (BFI) has an education fund, where the Institute s members can apply for financial support for professional development. BFI also has a programme for specialist certification.

9 NITO member benefits 17 NITO can help you when applying for a job HELP FOR JOB SEEKERS Reviewing CV s and job applications A favourable first impression is essential in order to trigger an employer s interest. This is why it is important that your CV and job application is designed to get you a job interview. As a NITO member, you can have your CV and application reviewed free of charge, with feedback and remarks that can improve your application. Electronically communicated. Job applicant training NITO holds job applicant training courses, free of charge to student members, at many of the country s universities and higher education institutions every year. And when needed, we also offer such training to unemployed members. The courses aims to update the participants on the current state of the job market for engineers and technologists, and offers ideas and techniques that will improve your chances of success in applying for a job. Finance If you are made unemployed or are laid off you can receive an exemption from your membership fee. Unemployed NITO members may receive up to NOK annually for professional development courses. We can also grant a loan if your employer files for bankruptcy and your wages are not paid.

10 NITO member benefits 19 The role of trade unions in Norway In Norway employees have the right to establish a representative system in the work place and elect their own representatives and health and safety officer. A good dialogue between the owner/management and the elected representatives of the employee s organisations is essential for the proper functioning of the Norwegian Model. NITO and its representatives take part in this dialogue at both the national level and at all levels in enterprises and work places where decisions are made that could have consequences for the employees work situation. The Norwegian Model has a long tradition and is essential for the way we develop and organise our working life. The main feature of our model is the formal and binding cooperation between the employers organisations, the employees organisations and government/state representatives. The intention is to ensure the participation of all three parts in important decisions concerning development and restructuring in the workplaces and employment in general, and to maintain a high level of employment.
