Students will be expected to maintain a 3.0 grade point average and have minimal absences. IB Honors students will be expected to follow the Code of Student Conduct and have exemplary behavior. All Honors students will be required to participate in community service as required by the International Baccalaureate Organization.(Failure to turn in community service hours and required essays will prevent the student from being accepted the following year). Eighth Grade Honors students will be required to complete a Culminating Project before the end of their 8 th grade year in the Glenridge International Baccalaureate Honors Program. 8 th grade students who successfully complete the IB requirements for the Honors program, complete their community service, and make at least a 3 out of 7 on their culminating project will receive an IB Certificate and have a ceremony in May. If the contract is violated, a meeting will be held with the IB coordinator, teachers, parent(s), and student. The student will be placed on probation or removed from the Honors program. If there is insufficient improvement at the conclusion of the probation period, the student will be exited from the program. Applicants who move into the area after the application due date will not be penalized for being late as long as there are available seats in the IB Honors classrooms. Applications will not be considered complete until all documents are received by Glenridge Middle School including grades, test scores and the answers to questions.(the reason I ask for two years is that sometimes circumstances get in the way of testing and I will have two different years to find the best scores). Remember nothing goes to the student s present school (unless they are already Glenridge students). **Students must be zoned to attend Glenridge Middle School to participate in the Glenridge International Baccalaureate Programme. Students coming from a non-orange County Public School must fill out a registration packet as soon as the present school year is over.(registration packets on OCPS website Pupil Assignment page) **Selected applicants should respond to Judy Lister if they have decided not to participate in the IB honors program so that the seat may be released to another student. ***You may take out and keep any sheets that do not require information or signatures if you wish.***

Academic Standards ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND ADMISSIONS Students who are enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years HONORS Programme (MYP) pathway must have a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 3.0 at the end of the year with no final grade of F in an academic class. If an academic class is failed, or a student s GPA falls below 3.0 at the end of the year, he or she may be moved to the Advanced IB Program. Appeal requests must be submitted in writing to the IB coordinator. All MYP IB students are required to sign an Academic Honor Code. Failure to sign this form or failure to honor this code can result in removal of the student from the programme. Admissions Agreement Students committing to the Middle Years HONORS Programme are expected to remain in the IB Programme for one full year. The admissions committee will review exceptions for students experiencing academic difficulty. Students requesting exceptions must appeal in writing to the IB Coordinator. Students committing to the IB Middle Years Programme must reside in the Glenridge Middle School attendance area. Community and Service participation is a requirement of the International Baccalaureate organization (all community service requirements in student planner). Hours must be performed in the time period of each community service due date. IB MYP HONORS -6th grade -must participate in 10 hours of community activities and school-based activities. IB MYP students -grade 7- must participate in a combination of 15 hours of school-based and community-based activities. IB MYP students -grade 8- must participate in a combination of 20 school-based and community-based activities. Due dates for will be November 27 and April 2. Five hours may be performed during summer. Reflections will be written in Lion Time on the dates when hours are turned in. Reflection logs should be kept for all of these activities. These logs will be used when writing reflection essays. Each student s Lion Time Teacher will be in charge of community service. Each student planner has a log sheet, information and requirements. Failure to complete the community service requirements in a timely manner will prevent students from being accepted into the program the following year. 8th grade students will not receive an IB Certificate or be listed on IB MYP Glenridge Honor Student graduate in good standing lists sent to WPHS.
Culminating Project- (8th grade only) The culminating project is a requirement of the International Baccalaureate Programme. The culminating project holds a very important place in the Program. This is intended to be the culmination of the student s involvement with the five areas of interaction. The project is therefore completed in the last year of the IB Middle Years Programme. This is the only time the students will be required to do this project. A student must achieve a minimum score of 3 on the culminating project to be eligible for the IB MYP certificate. This project will be completed through a technology or Lion Time class during the first or second semester. Citizenship It is an honor to be accepted into the Glenridge International Baccalaureate Middle Years HONORS Programme. This is a program for highly motivated students who are capable of moving at a fast and challenging pace. It is expected that you will be an excellent role model who shows good citizenship, leadership, and respect for fellow students and teachers. You will be a student who tries to live up to the IB Learner Profile. Failure to uphold these principles along with the honor code will be grounds for dismissal from this prestigious program. Winter Park High School Successful completion of the IB Middle Years Programme does not guarantee acceptance into any particular high school program. Orange County School of Choice will select the students for WPHS IB as well as all other magnet programs. Sixty percent of the students will be selected based on grades and test scores, while the other 40% will be through a lottery. Students must be zoned for Winter Park High School to be accepted into their magnet program. Online applications (only way to apply) are from November through February 15 (Orange County Public Schools-School of Choice-Magnet Programs). ( **An acceptance letter will be sent out and you must respond to the letter or the position will be opened for other students. We do believe that the completion of the IB Middle Years Program should provide the background and qualifications for any program your child may choose to apply for in the future.
ADMISSION QUESTIONS The purpose of the International Baccalaureate MYP written response to questions is to demonstrate to the IB Coordinator and staff that the student understands the academic and service requirements of the curriculum, to inform parents of the family commitment to the IB MYP, and to allow the coordinator and staff to get to know more about each applicant. It is hoped that the student and/or parent has attended an information meeting and, as a family, you have discussed this important school choice. Please answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper and return it with your completed application. 1. What are your interests? What do you do for fun? 2. What things are most important to you? 3. Describe an instance when you have been majorly challenged. How did you respond? 4. What career/careers are you considering? 5. What three adjectives describe you? 6. If you could change something about yourself, what would it be and why? ( nothing is not an acceptable answer) 7. What can you offer the IB Middle Years HONORS Programme at Glenridge Middle School? 8. What event has affected you the most this year and why? 9. Why do you want to be in the Glenridge IB Middle Years Programme? 10. Add this honor statement to the end of your questions. I answered these questions, by myself, with no help from parent or others. Student s signature date The ideal IB student can communicate clearly and honestly, can demonstrate a sense of who he/she is, and can verbalize why he/she wants to be in the IB Middle Years Programme. The undecided student should use these questions to thoroughly explore the decision. Parents are expected to complete and sign several forms. Students may choose to withdraw their application and reconsider their decision at any point prior to the beginning of the next school year. When the school has received and reviewed the completed application and academic standards pages, the IB coordinator will send out letters and/ or s of acceptance or placement.
IB MIDDLE YEARS HONOR CODE As a student of the IB Middle Years Programme of Glenridge Middle School, you are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. The members of the faculty are opposed to cheating for several reasons: Students who are mature enough to select a difficult and valuable program must also be mature enough to face a low grade when they ve earned it. Cheating allows a student to receive the same or better grade than students who have put in the time and effort to master the material. Dishonestly inflated grades ultimately raise the cheater s grade point and class rank, simultaneously lowering the rank of students who study. Not only does cheating misrepresent a student s mastery of the subject to parents, employers, and colleges, it also distorts the teacher s perception of curriculum effectiveness and class progress. The adherents of almost all religions and philosophies believe cheating to be morally wrong. The Orange County Code of Student Conduct defines cheating as follows: Willful or deliberate unauthorized use of work of another person for academic purposes, or unauthorized use of notes or other material in the completion of an academic assignment or test. In addition to receiving no credit for the assignment and being required to do a replacement assignment, the student may face possible disciplinary action. Glenridge Middle School, Winter Park High School, and the International Baccalaureate Program treat cheating as a serious matter. In addition to losing credit for the assignment, the student may face possible disciplinary action. Repeated cheating can result in removal from the program. Whether you are specifically asked to sign the Honor Pledge for each assignment or not, it will be understood that as a Glenridge IB MYP student you will always be able to sign the following. On my honor, I promise that I have neither given nor received help on this assignment or examination, nor will I pass on information to others. I have read, understand, and agree to the terms of the Glenridge Honor Code. Student Signature Date Parent s Signature Date
