1 Job description: Consultant in psychiatry combined with Clinical professor and Chair. Department for Depression and Anxiety, Aarhus University Hospital Risskov, Denmark. A position as Consultant in psychiatry combined with Clinical professor and Chair in Department for Depression and Anxiety is available to be filled at October 1 st 2015 or by appointment. Aarhus University Hospital Risskov consists of the following specialised clinical departments: Department for Organic Psychical Disorders and Emergency Department Department for Psychoses Department for Depression and Anxiety Department for Forensic Psychiatry Center for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry The Diagnostic field Department Q takes care of adult patients (aged 18-67) suffering from one or more of the following disorders: Affective disorders (F3); manic disorder and depression. Nervous and stress-related disorders (F4); anxiety and obsessive disorders. Behavioural changes connected to physiological disturbances and physical factors including sexual disturbances (F5). Personality disorders (F6); consistent behavioural patterns and perception methods differing from the expected. Suicidal non-mentally and mildly mentally disordered patients. Functions (specialised levels) Head functions (level one) The department covers all head function areas related to the target group. The department s catchment area for head function patients consists of Aarhus, Favrskov, Samsoe and Silkeborg Municipalities.
2 Regional functions (level two) Complex affective disorders including affective disorders in combination with substance abuse as well as pregnant women with affective disorders. Complex anxiety disorders and obsessive disorders. Complex personality disorders. Sexual disorders. Trans-cultural psychiatric patients with mild or complex psychiatric disorders. Traumatised refugees. Suicide prevention for non-mentally and mildly mentally disordered patients. Highly specialised functions (level three) Diagnostics and treatment of particularly complex sexual disorders including somatically disabled patients with sexual difficulties as well as patients who have experienced violence, incest and the like. Diagnostics and treatment of particularly complex affective disorders. Diagnostics and assessment of particularly complex trans-cultural psychiatric patients including particularly complex psychiatric disorder in ethnic minorities. Diagnostics and treatment of particularly complex traumatised refugees. Patient treatment is undertaken in wards as well as on an outpatient basis. The organisation of Department Q Department Q consists of: Four wards of which one attends to psychiatric diagnosing and treatment related to patients suffering from unipolar depression and selfinjuring patients diagnosed with an emotionally unstable personality disorder. The remaining three wards treat unipolar and bipolar patients in a depressive as well as a manic stage. All wards collaborate closely with the department s outpatient section. This includes: Clinic for personality disorders which handles ambulant diagnosing
3 and treatment of patients suffering from personality disorders. Clinic for OCD, Anxiety Disorders and Suicide Prevention. Clinic for PTSD and Trans-Cultural Psychiatry which diagnoses and treats traumatised refugees and patients of a different ethnic background as well as veterans. The Outpatient Clinic for Mania and Depression which employs about 70 employees: physicians, psychologists, nurses and other professions who attend to the diagnosing and treatment of affective patients. The clinic s treatment methods consist of medicamental treatment as well as psychotherapy, psycho education and cognitive training, primarily as group treatment. The hospital s ECT unit is part of the Outpatient Clinic for Mania and Depression together with a neuropsychiatric team managing the diagnosing of patients suspected to suffer from a brain-organic pathogenesis. Employees in Department Q 18 specialists in psychiatry junior doctors undergoing education 37 psychologists Teaching responsibility Department Q is classified as a teaching department at which the obligatory teaching positions related to the specialist education in psychiatry are connected. A chief physician is responsible for the education with a junior doctor as education coordinator. The department partakes in the education of medical students and receives students for clinical and formalised teaching every month.
4 The consultant s clinical obligations Executive responsibility for and independent handling of the diagnosing, visitation and treatment of patients. Executive responsibility for a suitable planning, organising and coordination of tasks related to diagnosing and treatment in collaboration with physicians and other professional groups. Support the active educational culture of the department. Handle teaching, supervision and instruction of physicians, medical students and other professional groups independently. The consultant is expected to undertake clinical work in the department by further agreement with the department management. Qualifications Professional Specialist authorization in psychiatry. Broad knowledge within general psychiatry. Professional experience in the affective field. Psychotherapeutic competencies as well as psychopharmacological knowledge and experience. Teaching experience. Leadership competencies. Personal Robust, patient, tolerant, reliable, stable. Able to reflect on own performance. Able to engage and inspire colleagues. Inclination to partake in a positive and challenging work environment. The consultant refers to the management of the department with primary reference to the managing consultant.
5 The applicant will have to meet the following within the seven competencies of the medical specialist: Leader/administrator: The consultant is responsible for an appropriate planning, organisation and coordination of the clinical tasks related to assessment and treatment in collaboration with physicians and other professions. Medical expert: The applicant must have both psychopathological as well as psychofarmachologal knowledge and skills to master diagnostics and therapeutic skills at a professional level within the department s diagnostically defined target group, with special emphasis on affective disorders. The applicant must continuously pursue and develop these skills. Knowledge and experience with psychotherapy is also expected. Communicator: The applicant is expected to have an initiative-taking and extrovert communicative style. He or she must be a positive and dedicated person who is caring and trustworthy in the contact with patients, relatives and employees, and who has the ability to communicate academic identity and attitudes to the staff, including in particular young doctors. Collaborator: The applicant must be able to engage in a constructive dialogue with colleagues and other healthcare professionals in connection with the diagnosing and treatment of the individual patient, as well as the planning and implementation of the day-to-day duties. Health promoter: The applicant must be aware of and able to identify and communicate knowledge about factors affecting the state of health of the individual patient, e.g. weight, smoking and exercise, as well as factors affecting the state of health in the local community in general. Academic: The applicant must be PhD or DMSc.
6 The applicant must be critical when assessing medical information and medical practice and facilitate learning in patients, patients and colleagues. Professional: The applicant must as a medical specialist perform high quality treatment with integrity, honesty and compassion, show respect in interpersonal relations with patients, relatives and colleagues demonstrate professional conduct and practice the discipline in ethical compliance with Central Denmark Region's policies, the Danish Mental Health Act, the Medical Law and the Hippocratic Oath.
