2 About us what are Specialty Feed Ingredients? FEFANA founded in 1963, is the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their mixtures. It is the united voice of the specialty feed ingredients industry in the European Union Specialty Feed Ingredients feed additives functional feed ingredients premixes and other mixtures of specialty ingredients About us what are Specialty Feed Ingredients? Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 of the European Parliament and the Council on Additives for Use in Animal Nutrition «Feed Additives» means substances, microorganisms or preparations (..) which are intentionally added to feed ( ) to perform on or more of the following functions : favorably affect the characteristics of the feed Satisfy the nutritional demand of the animals favorably affect the environmental consequences of animal production favorably affect animal production, performance or welfare particularly by affecting the gastro-intestinal flora or digestibility of feeding stuff About us What are Specialty Feed Ingredients? 2
3 Sustainability a Common understanding Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Source: World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), (Brundtland Commission 1983) Sustainability a Common understanding I = P x A x T The formula describes the impact of human activity on the environment. It was created by Paul Ralph Ehrlich in the 1970s.
