3 Collaborations, Innovation on Health Care and Welfare services and technologies Case I: CareLab CareLab is a partnership between Odense Municipality and University College Lillebælt and it is run by the Danish Technological Institute, Robot Technology. The purpose of CareLab is to develop and test new welfare technologies and its competencies encompass relevant technologies and working procedures within the health care sector, with a focus on implementation, utilization and development of products, solutions and services. CareLab works as a collaboration platform for end users, health care staff, welfare staff and companies that develop technologies on component and system level or for research groups / project consortia use. The lab includes numerous technologies and systems like tele-presence robots, social pedagogical robots, cleaning robots, and specific systems for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Case II: Patient@home Patient@home is a Danish platform for research and innovation projects focusing on development of welfare and healthcare technologies for the public sector. The project develops new products and services that reduce the pressure on health care and home care services, and empowers patients to receive integrated care in their own home. For this reason an innovation model has been established in the project. This innovation model ensures that prototypes and products are based on identified and clearly described needs and challenges for users and customers both regionally and in the municipalities. Background Danish Technological Institute (DTI) develops, applies and transfers robot technology to the industry and society. Our focus is innovation - applying new research results and robot technologies to create the robot solutions in the markets of tomorrow. DTI is a leading European robotics-innovator with a staff of more than 85 robotic experts, well-equipped labs in Denmark and USA with more than users every year as well as more than 125 robotic projects in the portfolio p.m. Living Lab Denmark - a collaboration model supporting and professionalising public and private innovation. Anne Smetana, Head of Unit Peter Bamberg, Chief Adviser Living Lab Denmark is a virtual platform and a model for public and private innovation. "SILVER" - Introduction and project status. Background: Odense is Denmark s third largest city with inhabitants and the advantageous location in the heart of Denmark, which makes Odense a great meeting point. 10.a.m. The SILVER project searches for new technologies to assist elderly people in their everyday lives. By the use of robotics or other related technologies, the elderly can continue independent living at home even if they have physical or cognitive disabilities. The new technologies and solutions are sought by using a Pre- Commercial Procurement (PCP) process. In Europe, the PCP has so far been an under-utilized tool for promoting innovation. One of the aims of this project is to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach to address societal and governmental needs. Odense Municipality and the Region of Southern Denmark are both partners in the project consortium. Transport to the University Hospital The coach will pick you up next to of the town hall, on your left hand a.m. The University Hospital of Odense Jane Kraglund, Hospital Director Peder Jest, Chief Medical Officer Side 4 af 7
5 Claus Duedal Pedersen, Head of the Innovation Division Kristian Kidholm, HTA Consultant Odense University Hospital (OUH) is one of the three university hospitals in Denmark. Here all medical specialities are represented in one place. OUH is one of the largest education and training centres in the South Denmark Region, and we have close collaboration with the University of Southern Denmark. OUH is a strong player in the field of telemedicine and telehealth as solutions are used for various types of online collaboration between specialists, patients and district nurses. Telemedicine solutions are also used for video conferencing, telepathology interpretation via webcam, etc., as well aspatient groups receiving medical consultations and check-ups in their own home. During the visit at the hospital, the guests will be introduced to: Innovation projects at OUH Evidence-based Research MAST Practical examples of telemedicine solutions - COPD Rehabilitation Patient Briefcase - Video Interpretation The future OUH is currently being built in the southeast district of Odense, near the University of Southern Denmark. All efforts are focused on establishing a hospital that meets the needs of a new era in every way by providing an ideal setting for treatment, nursing and care, as well as research and education a.m. Transport to the University of Southern Denmark Visit at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Faculty of Engineering, Niels Bohrs Allé 1, Odense p.m. LUNCH Lunch (buffet) at the University of Southern Denmark (main entrance of Faculty of Engineering, Niels Bohrs Allé 1, Odense) 1 p.m. RoboLab, building J, Faculty of Engineering Short introduction of the University of Southern Denmark and participating institutes: Vice-Chancellor Jens Oddershede Dean Per Michael Johansen, Faculty of Engineering The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute by Lars Dyhr, Head of Institute Institute of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, Jørgen Povlsen, Head of Institute 1.15 pm: 6 workshops will present triple helix projects. 6 The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute WS 1: Minimal invasive surgery (Thiusius Rajeeth Savarimuthu). The coming university hospital in Odense will ensure 714 somatic beds, which is a reduction of beds by almost 35 % compared to At the same time, it is expected that the number of patients will increase in the coming years and the group of elderly requiring more treatment will increase relatively. Implementation of new technology into hospitals is one of the means to cope with these challenges. Minimal invasive surgery using robots is one of the technologies that reduces the length of the hospital stay and thereby increases the capacity of the wards and operating theatres. At the moment, the numbers of surgical procedures conducted using robots are limited the research on robotic surgery can make an impact in this area and lead to a further reduction of the hospital stay for surgical patients. WS 2: Technologies for training and rehabilitation (Richard Bech and Anders Bøgild). The aim of these research and development activities is to develop concepts and technologies that motivate and support patients in their training by use of monitoring devices, interactive collaborative systems, and play-ware with competitive options and social challenges. Technology assisted training at home will be studied in randomized controlled trials making evidence to show the effectiveness and clinical relevance of the methods. WS 3: Data representations, standards and open system infrastructure. There is a need for generic software support to structure and merge the data representation across standards, and ease the use and integration in system developments. Some components for building an open infrastructure for health are available, but holistic approaches to develop the software ecosystems also allowing third party developers to easily integrate new innovative health applications with the national EHR solutions and primary care, are still lacking for the visions of integrated health enterprises to evolve. The research targets new innovative software engineering principles based on multi-agent techniques that in combination with the work on data representation will provide a platform for such a software ecosystem. Institute of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics WS 4: imo Learn - Physical activity and health movement and learning in the classroom through interactive school furniture (Lars Elbæk). WS 5: Sedentariness, physical activity and health concerning elderly people: joint or independent effects? Implementation of an active life-style intervention in the community for older people with functional limitations using high-tech telemonitoring (Paolo Caserotti). WS 6: Supervised physical exercise training at the worksite during working hours according to the concept Intelligent Physical Exercise Training. Evidence of worksite physical exercise training to promote health in jobs ranging Side 6 af 7
7 from low to high occupational physical demands (Gisela Sjøgaard). Background: The University of Southern Denmark has students and more than employees. The University is fully comprehensive and offers teaching and research at 6 campuses in Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, Slagelse and Copenhagen which are situated on Funen, in the south of Jutland, west of Zealand and in the capital city ( The University of Southern Denmark plays a major role in facilitating the research and innovation activities in the Region of Southern Denmark and the largest projects within Health and Social innovation in Denmark, Patient@Home, is anchored at the University p.m. Room D4, Faculty of Engineering (coffee will be served) Final dialogue-session with the purpose of discussing collaboration topics and mutual learning of the visit.
