1 READING AND UNDERSTANDING SUPPLEMENT LABELS And DIFFERENCES BETWEEN NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC SUPPLEMENTATION Before laying out a systemized and definitive assortment of future ACTIVZ whole food nutritional supplements it will be necessary to understand the basic differences between nutrients that are considered natural from those that are considered to be synthetic. From a total wellness point of view there is a huge difference. Synthetic vitamins, often referred to as fractionated vitamins, are chemical based and produced in the laboratory. Studies show that 90 percent of vitamin pills pass through your body unabsorbed! This is primarily due to the fact that most all vitamin & mineral supplements contain nothing but laboratory developed synthetic or inorganic ingredients. Natural ingredients are more effectively used by your body, which is designed to reject synthetic and foreign substances. As has been stated, synthetic, fractionated chemical vitamins never grew in the ground, never saw the light of day, and never were alive or a part of anything alive. They re chemicals...dead chemicals! In your body it's just another drug. The following is a distillation of information from research conducted by various universities and research foundations and then reported in such medical journals as The New England Journal of Medicine, Reuters Health, The Harvard Medical School Wellness Letter, and The Center for Human Nutrition at UCLA. CNN recently reported findings from studies conducted by Dr. Edgar Miller of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland that Vitamin E supplements which millions take in the hope of longer, healthier lives, may do more harm than good. In fact, said Dr. Miller, people taking high doses of [synthetic] vitamin E [98% are synthetic] may in some cases be more likely to die earlier, although the reasons are not clear. So that we can properly analyze our product labels, we need to understand the type of vitamins in use. Below is a vitamin comparison chart enabling us to distinguish the difference between a Natural and a Synthetic. VITAMIN NATURAL SYNTHETIC** Vitamin A DHA Oils, Fish Oils, Omega 3 s, Carrots, Lemon Grass, D. salina algae and other selected whole food vegetable complexes Beta Carotene When Beta Carotene is mentioned coming from a whole food source such as d. salina Vitamin B-1 Brown Rice Bran, Rice Oil, Brewers Yeast, Nutritional Yeast, Barley Grass, Molasses, Fermented Soy Complex, Peas, Avocados, Nuts, Seeds and Watermelon. Processed with petroleum derivatives, acids and acetylene. Cobalamin or Cyanocobalamin. Made with cobalamins reacted with cyanide and formaldehyde. Ascorbic Acid, Buffered Ascorbic Acids, Fermented corn that is chemically changed by hydrogenated sugar and the use of acetone. Cholecalciferol. Solvents are used in the process. d-alpha Tocopherol Acetate, Tocopheryl Acetate, dl-alpha Tocopherol, Alphatocopherol, Succinate. Made from trimethylhydroquinone. Menadione, Phytonadione, Naphtoquinone. Synthetic Vitamin K is a coal tar derivative produced with p-allelic-nickel. Choline Bitartrate What is a mineral? As simple as it may seem, this question is the first step in examining the role of minerals in nutrition. The dictionary describes minerals as solid, crystalline substances (diamond, copper, quartz, calcium, etc.) not of animal or vegetable origin. The key words are "not of animal or vegetable origin." A mineral is a naturally occurring inorganic solid. They are not made by humans. They have never been alive and are not made up from plants or animals. Because minerals intended for nutritional purposes cannot be synthesized by the body, they must be utilized as natural elements - they must be eaten and successfully absorbed. Although found in fruits and vegetables, the minerals come from the soil and water. One company, Albion Laboratories has developed and patented the ability to closely duplicate the natural chelation process which occurs in the body. Albion has the ability to turn inorganic rocks (mineral sources) into small organic molecules, making them highly bioavailable and therefore more effective. It is a reliable means of providing mineral nutrition. Unfortunately, supplement manufactures have attempted to pass on to the public inorganic minerals..."rocks". Besides being extremely cheap they do little if any good because they pass immediately out of the body before ever being absorbed through the

3 stomach or intestinal wall. In other words, the body does not recognize the inorganic mineral and rejects it presence. Here are some of the findings from Albion Laboratories, the number one producer of Amino Acid Chelated minerals. To do the body good, a mineral in supplemental form must be bioavailable. It must pass through both the stomach and intestinal walls to be utilized and effective for the body. One good definition of bioavailability is the amount of a nutrient ingested that is absorbed and thus available to the body for metabolic use. Bioavailability is important because all nutritional in-take must be available to various body systems for growth, maintenance of body tissues, reproduction and other performance factors. No matter how high the nutrient levels or how well formulated the product, if it is not bioavailable, then money and effort have been wasted. The only method that has been developed and patented to allow mineral bioavailability with supplementation is through a process referred to as Chelation. When minerals such as zinc, manganese, magnesium, copper, iron, calcium, and others become surrounded by and bonded to organic amino acids, in a stable form, this is referred to as chelation. Chelation is a natural means for the body to transport minerals across the intestinal wall as part of digestion. Chelating minerals to amino acids, allows the mineral form to be smuggled via the Albion Laboratories patented special transport system across the intestinal lining into the body system. There are many products on the market which are reported to be chelates. Some are only complexed mixtures of minerals and proteins not fitting into the definition of true amino acid chelates. These lose integrity during digestion, becoming unstable and compromise availability. At ACTIVZ we offer only patented amino acid chelated minerals* Our minerals are of the most superior quality with the ability to closely duplicate the natural chelation process, which occurs in the body essentially, as Albion s patent states turning inorganic rocks into small organic molecules. This patented process makes Albion minerals highly bioavailable and therefore more effective. It is a reliable means of providing mineral nutrition.
