The ability of this grease to adhere to wheel flanges is outstanding. It contains special additives which reduce the loss of lubricant that occurs when high-speed trains pass over the treadles, or when the lubricant is applied on the locomotive wheel flange or rail gauge face. Penetration NLGI at 77 F Base Oil Drop Point % Product Grade Thickener Structure Color Worked cst at 40 C C ( F) Moly Curve Grease Lithium Smooth/Tacky Gray/Black (350) 3.0 Gargoyle Arctic Oils are naphthenic oils with very low pour points for the lubrication of reciprocating and rotary refrigeration compressors. They may be used with all types of refrigerants except HFC-134a and sulfur dioxide. They are suitable for a wide range of conditions. Gargoyle Arctic Oil 155 has a Freon-12 floc point of -33 F. Gargoyle Arctic Oil 300 has a Freon-12 floc point of -24 F. (Use with ammonia in screw compressors could cause sludge under severe operating conditions.) Gargoyle Arctic Oil C Heavy is recommended as low temperature circulating oil in refrigeration compressors when intimate mixing with refrigerant is not expected. Gargoyle Arctic SHC 200 Series oils are suitable for systems using refrigerants such as R12, R114, and ammonia. They may also be used with R22 systems, provided the cooling system is designed for a partially miscible lubricant. Their Freon-12 floc point is -60 F. Gargoyle Arctic SHC 200 Series fluids are recommended for reciprocating and rotary compressors. They have USDA H-1 approval for incidental contact with food. Spec. These products provide the highest level of protection for motorcycles. The unique properties of a synthetic fluid provide natural protection against viscosity shear-down and loss. They offer excellent flow characteristics at low temperatures to reduce wear at start-up, and they offer outstanding protection against high temperature breakdown. Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 is formulated specifically for 4-cycle V twin engines. Mobil 1 MX2T is designed for 2-cycle dirt bikes and Mobil MX4T 10W-40 is recommended for on-road, off-road competition and high performance 4-cycle sport bikes. Grav. ExxonMobil 24-Hour Emergency Line (Call Collect): in the U.S. FIRE HAZARDS Many petroleum products are highly volatile and flammable and must be handled with extreme caution to prevent fire or explosion. These include a few extra light viscosity lubricants and many solvents. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has classified products with flash points below 37.8 C (100 F) as flammable, and products with flash points at or above 37.8 C and below 93.3 C (200 F) combustible. Products with flash points above 93.3 C (200 F), when used for their intended purposes, are not classified as fire hazards in accordance with OSHA (29 CFR ). Petroleum products should not be stored or handled near sources of ignition, such as heat, sparks, open flame, sources of static electricity, or near strong oxidants such as chlorine (including swimming pool chemicals) and concentrated oxygen. WARNING: Empty containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose such containers to heat, flame, sparks, static electricity, or other sources of ignition which may cause them to explode. Do not attempt to clean since residue is difficult to remove, and even a trace of remaining material constitutes an explosive hazard. Empty drums should be completely drained, properly bunged, and promptly returned to a drum reconditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with governmental regulations. 43

As a precaution, exposure to liquids, vapors, and mists of petroleum products should be minimized. Inhalation Health specialists have established maximum concentration levels for hydrocarbon vapors in air to which nearly all workers may be safely exposed. Where applicable, the levels established for Mobil products are indicated in Material Safety Data Sheets. Prolonged breathing of hydrocarbon vapor concentrations in excess of prescribed limits may result in light-headedness, dizziness, and nausea. Inhalation of higher vapor concentrations may produce dizziness, headache, respiratory tract irritation, and unconsciousness. If a person is overcome by vapor, remove the individual from exposure at once and call a physician. If breathing is irregular or has stopped, start resuscitation and administer oxygen, if available. To avoid inhalation of excessive concentrations of hydrocarbons, store and handle highly volatile petroleum products such as solvents and solvent-cutback products only in open, well-ventilated areas. In special cases of indoor handling, e.g., laboratories, products always should be handled under vented hoods powered with explosion-proof motors. Under certain circumstances, sulfur compounds in hot asphalt may form the toxic gas hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S). Prolonged breathing of 50 to 100 ppm of H 2 S will produce eye and respiratory tract irritation, headache, nervousness, and nausea. At higher concentrations of H 2 S (700 to 1000 ppm) only a few breaths of the gas may lead to unconsciousness and could be fatal. To avoid breathing excessive concentrations of H 2 S, personnel should stand upwind of tank and bulk transport compartments containing asphalt, keep their faces at least two feet from compartment openings, and avoid breathing vapors when opening hatches and dome covers. Use respiratory equipment where necessary. Ingestion As a general precaution, if petroleum products are ingested, keep the person calm. DO NOT induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately, identifying the product and approximate amount swallowed. While petroleum products are generally not highly toxic, solvents and light oils with viscosities below 20.5 centistokes (100 SUS) at 37.8 C (100 F) pose a distinct hazard of being aspirated into the lungs and causing chemical pneumonitis. This is a delayed effect, which may not occur for days. Because of the risk of accidental swallowing, petroleum products should never be siphoned by mouth. Skin Contact Prolonged or repeated contact of petroleum oils, greases, or solvents with the skin can cause skin irritation and dermatitis. In case of skin contact, wash skin thoroughly with soap and warm water. A waterless hand cleaner and a soft skin brush can be used to help remove oils and greases. For certain products, dry-wiping is advised before using waterless hand cleaner. Refer to the product MSDS for specific instructions and precautions. Promptly remove petroleum-soaked clothing and launder before re-use. If a petroleum product contacts the eyes, flush the eyes with fresh water until the irritation subsides; if irritation persists, call a physician. If prolonged contact with petroleum products is unavoidable, wear chemical-resistant gloves, apron, splash goggles, and other protective clothing. 44

Hydraulic oil under high pressure can cause similar injury. Regardless of the size or appearance of the wound, a physician should be contacted immediately, as treatment may require surgical intervention. Chronic Health Effects Although not the case with many highly or well refined petroleum oils, studies with laboratory animals have shown that prolonged exposure to certain petroleum products can cause cancer and other chronic health effects. Some petroleum oils and distillates have caused skin cancer in mice following skin painting tests over the animals lifetime. In similar tests, used motor oil also has caused skin cancer. Carefully check the product MSDS for such warning information. Inhalation of the vapors of most non-aromatic solvents has been shown to cause kidney damage in male rats. The normal hexane (n-hexane) component of hexane solvent is known to cause a form of motor nerve damage called peripheral polyneuropathy in humans. ADDITIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS You can protect yourself from petroleum-related hazards by exercising care and common sense in the handling of petroleum products. Appropriate engineering controls, work practices, and personal protection should be used to minimize skin contact and to keep exposure by inhalation as far below the recommended occupational exposure limit as is reasonably practical. They are either single-purpose materials or multipurpose materials. Listed below are descriptions of some commonly used additive types. Adhesive Agent The tacky, stringy materials which help form and retain uniform films on metal surfaces. Antiwear Agent Such materials adsorb or concentrate on metal surfaces to form films which minimize the direct metal-to-metal contact. The name applies to materials which enhance the antiwear characteristics of petroleum oils to permit loadings of double or triple that which can be handled by straight petroleum oils. These materials are nonstaining and noncorrosive. Defoamant When added to fluids, defoamants will promote rapid breakup of foam bubbles by weakening the oil films between the foam bubbles. Demulsifier Assists the natural ability of the oil to separate rapidly from water; helps inhibit rust.. Detergent When added to oils, these neutral-to-overbased (high alkalinity), metallic detergents which carry extra neutralization and cleanliness power, can reduce the level of acidic materials generated when burning high-sulfur fuel, and help keep the engine clean. Dispersant Suspends organic deterioration products in the lubricant to minimize their precipitation as harmful deposits. Extreme Pressure Agent These materials are more active than antiwear agents. They react with metal surfaces to form relatively oil insoluble surface films which reduce friction, control wear and prevent surface damage which could result from heavy loads and/or high temperatures. Such materials are used, for example, in the Mobilgear 600 Series oils. Automotive hypoid gears require lubricants which contain very active extreme pressure agents. Friction Modifier A general category of materials that are used to alter the frictional characteristics of a lubricant. They may be used to increase the lubricity or slipperiness where coefficient of friction may be important and to improve fuel economy/energy conservation. They may be used to reduce stick-slip or chatter in wet clutch applications. Oxidation Inhibitor Peroxide decomposers destroy the precursor of radical sources by converting the peroxides into harmless compounds. Chain stoppers interrupt the chain reaction between oxygen and hydrocarbon radicals to prevent or slow the formation of acidic materials, propagated materials, and sludges. Metal deactivators retard the oxidation-promoting catalytic effect of metals in a lubricating system. The metal surfaces or particles are covered by the agent which acts as a barrier to prevent the catalytic effect. The most catalytically active metal is copper; the second is lead, and the third is iron. Some additive agents function as chain stoppers, peroxide decomposers, and/or metal deactivators. Pour Point Depressant Improves the low-temperature fluidity of mineral oils and reduces wax formation at low temperatures. Index Improver When added to oils, these high-molecular-weight polymers improve the viscosity index by coiling and uncoiling in response to temperature. It is a major factor in the development of the load carrying ability of an oil. It is defined as resistance to flow at 40 degrees Centigrade and typically reported in Centistokes (cst). WEAR METALS The presence of these metals can indicate a wear problem on a microscopic level before the problem can be detected by conventional means. The existence of a wear problem is determined not only by absolute values of metals, but more importantly by a relative increase or trend in one or more of these metals.
