5 LinkedIn Groups are comprised of members sharing common interests within the larger LinkedIn network Groups typically include discussions, news, jobs board, member directories, and Group Updates If you start a LinkedIn Group you can decide its focus, determine who can join, choose the Group s name and logo, etc. Search Groups specific to an industry or interest in the Groups Directory Note: LinkedIn connects you to others sharing your interests or responsibilities across the world or in your own neighborhood. Members post or answer another member s posted questions on LinkedIn s Q&A forum - located under the Answers tab Answers in the Q&A forum can be posted publicly (for all to see) or privately (only the question originator can see) LinkedIn members can rate their favorite response to a question as a best answer giving credit to the writer for others to see 79% of B2B organizations using online business forums use LinkedIn Answers (Business.com report, December 2009) Note: LinkedIn offers a search capability, allowing users to find questions and answers in the Q&A Forum by keyword 5

12 Social Media platforms can help you in EVERY aspect of preparedness, response, recovery and planning WHILE it helps you fulfill on your mission. Tools such at TweetDeck and Hootsuite allow you to manage multiple social media sites get much more done, in much less time. Most of the Social Media sites are free a small investment of your time can reap great rewards. Know WHAT you want to accomplish BEFORE going deep fundraising, advocacy, consumer engagement, emergency readiness, etc. Create at least a basic, accurate, simple presence on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter think of them as free, dynamic directories, with hundreds of millions of users. You want them to find you. Social Media gives you more reach and access than any current form of traditional media. For every new technology, there are early adopters and the vocal resistance. Early adopters benefit more, they get their needs built in to updates and new versions, they get consulting dollars, etc. Nonprofits often represent people with limited ability to take full advantage of new technology - Represent your consumers on Social lmedia The more connected you are, the faster you can get your message out, the more prepared you are.
