The role of the Cyprus Energy Agency
The establishment of the Cyprus Energy Agency is co-financed by: European Commission through the Intelligent Energy for Europe programme ( ), and the Cyprus Union of Communities
The total eligible cost for the establishment and operation of the Agency is euros for 36 months The EU co-funding through the Intelligent Energy for Europe programme is 75% of the total eligible cost The co-funding from the Cyprus Union of Communities is 25% of the total eligible cost
380 local/regional energy agencies are in operation in Europe More than 60 new energy agencies have been established with the support of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme since More than 200 energy agencies were established under the co-funding programme SAVE II ( ) (predecessor of the IEE programme).
The map of the new Energy Agencies which are cofinanced through the Intelligent Energy for Europe programme
The Cyprus Energy Agency is the first and the only one of this type that will be established in Cyprus (according to European Commission decision) Is located in Lefkosia The CEA will cover all Cyprus democracy territory CEA
Legal Status The legal status of the CEA follows the legal requirements for the establishment of a non-profit organization under the Cypriot Societies and Institutions Law 57/1972.
What are the energy agencies? Local and regional energy agencies (LEAs) support the introduction of good energy management practices, advocate the concept of sustainability, provide information and guidance, and offer a number of other local services based on specific local energy needs. They operate impartially on both energy demand and supply issues. LEAs reflect their local situations, economic and social circumstances and the geographical size of the relevant local area.
What do energy agencies do? Information, advice and training on energy management issues Support for the implementation of local/regional energy plans Energy audits of public and private buildings Raising awareness on energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and transport issues Search for energy-management incentive funds at national and international level
Autonomy of the Agency The autonomy of the agency is a critical issue in order to ensure that the aims and objectives will be reached. As it is obvious from the organizational structure, the non dependence of the agency from governmental or other authorities, the participation of all groups of interest on the Management Board and the absence of financial dependency, guarantee the autonomic operation of the agency.
