1 1. Introduction The USB 2.0 CardBus adapter adds two or four (depend on which item you purchased) high-speed USB 2.0 ports to your Notebook computer. It supports highspeed (480Mbps), full-speed (12Mbps), and low-speed (1.5 Mbps) data transfer modes. High-speed USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 backward support enable this adapter to work with all types of USB devices including hubs, digital cameras, PC video cameras, scanners, joysticks and more. 2. Concept of the Universal Serial Bus 2.0 The USB 2.0 is specified to be an industry-standard extension to the PC architecture with a focus on PC peripherals that enable consumer and business application. Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the CardBus adapter are given since the location of the CardBus type II slot may vary between different portable computers. 1. Insert the PC Card into an available CardBus type II slot with the arrow orientation pointing toward the slot. 2. If USB devices support by Bus Power with larger power consumption. Be sure connect optional power jack to supply such devices, like as Hard disk enclosure 3. Hardware installation is complete. Please proceed to the next section for driver installation. 3

A "Add New Hardware Wizard" display: NEC USB Open Host Controller" or NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller (miniport) and then press " Next" 3. Insert Windows 98SE CD-Title into your CD-Rom 4. Choose "Display a list of all the drives in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want", select NEC USB Open Host Controller" click "Next", "Next" then "Finish". 5. Repeat step 2-4 one more time for complete install USB 1.1 driver. 6. When "Add New Hardware Wizard" display: PCI Universal Serial Bus 7. Click "Next", Choose "Search for the best driver for your device (recommended)", then " NEXT" 8. Insert USB 2.0 Driver Disk into A driver 9. Choose "Specify a location" select A driver, then "OK", click "NEXT" 10. Choose "The update driver (recommended), NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller click "Next", "Next", "Finish" 4

5 7.2 Eject USB 2.0 Cardbus from NoteBook under Win 98 SE 1. Go to Taskbar, click PC Card icon. 2. Select NEC USB Open Host Controller click Stop, then Yes 3. With mouse right click My Computer, select Properties, click Device Manager, go to Universal Serial Bus 4. Select NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller, then click Remove 5. Select NEC USB Open Host Controller, then click Remove 6. Now you can softly eject USB 2.0 CardBus adapter. 8 Windows ME Driver Installation 8.1 Driver Installation 1 Insert USB 2.0 CardBus into your 32 bit PC Card type II slot. 2 At the Add New Hardware Wizard, choose Automatic search for a better driver (recommended) and click Next. Click Finish. 3 When "Add New Hardware Wizard" display: PCI Universal Serial Bus 4 Click "Next", Choose "Search for the best driver for your device (recommended)", then " NEXT" 5 Insert USB 2.0 Driver Disk into A driver 6 Choose "Specify a location" select A driver, then "OK", click "NEXT" 7 Choose "The update driver (recommended), NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller click "Next", "Next", "Finish" 8.2 Eject USB 2.0 Cardbus from NoteBook under Win ME 1. Go to Taskbar, click PC Card icon. 2. Select NEC USB Open Host Controller click Stop, then Yes 3. At Found New hardware Wizard, then click Next. 3. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, choose Automatic search for a better driver (recommended) and click Next. Click Finish. 4.
