1/9 Ref: TECHNICAL ARGUMENTS FOR OWN SCADA AND OWN SCADA WITH PID CONTROL. About 600 units in EDIBON product range are considered as advanced units. Why do we consider them advanced units? There are many key features involved in all these units that we will describe in details later on, but all these units are using, a computer controlled system unique in the market, as EDIBON is the only company using that computer control system with SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control. This system includes the main three elements: (See the short form catalogue, where we indicate if we use SCADA only or SCADA with PID Control). The unit is connected with: Control Interface Box, Data Acquisition Board and computer. In order all these elements work together we used the Software packages, one for doing control, another for doing data acquisition and another for doing data management and supervision. Control Interface Box: This Control Interface Box is a box that includes all the controllers and all electronic facilities for receiving the signals from any sensor allocated in the unit to be studied. The signals received used to be mili volts (mv) in most of the cases. In some particular cases can be mili amps (ma) or other signals. These signals are very weak and the interface box manipulates them in order to send the information received to the computer by using the computer control software, in order to understand all the signals by the computer. The Control Interface Box has many important and advanced characteristics, in order to be very precise and to avoid all disturbances that these weak signals used to surround it. There are many disturbances involved as interferences, magnetic effects, harmonics, etc. Data Acquisition Board: The other important element in the EDIBON computer control system is the Data Acquisition Board. EDIBON has designed our own Data Acquisition Board, similar to the one we are using, as is the National Instrument Data Acquisition Board, that is getting 250 KS/s, that means samples per second. Because we have the know-how for this Data Acquisition Board, we have decided to use the National Instrument one, because of two main reasons. Firstly, because the price is lower than ours as we produced few of them and National Instrument produce millions. Secondly, this National Instrument Data Acquisition Board is very well-known in most industries in the world and probably by most Technical Departments, in all Universities in the world. This Data Acquisition Board has to be allocated in the slot of any computer available in the market and once the board is in the computer, it can be used for doing any research or tests by any customer using EDIBON Computer Controlled Units. Computer Control Software + Data Acquisition Software + Data Management and Supervision Software The Computer Control Software allows to control the unit. The Data Acquisition Software allows to get the proper information given by the unit, display and print values, results and curves, etc. The Data Management Software allows the teacher and students to manipulate all the data received from the unit, to compare, to analyze, even to do their own work at home when they make a copy of the file related with all the results obtained. The supervision software as part of the SCADA System allows to supervise, in real time, the complete process in any unit. Additionaly to these softwares we provide a calibration software. So in the whole system, EDIBON has designed totally: 1. The Computer Controlled Units. 2. The Control Interface Box. 3. The software packages as Computer Control Software, Data Acqusition Software, Data Management and Supervision Software. The software packages are supplied in only one CD.

2/ The Data Acquisition Board as is a standard one, we buy it from National Instrument, but we fully control the know-how involved in it. As we mentioned before, all the units mentioned: 1,2,3, are working together and can be connected to any computer available in the market. This unique Computer Control EDIBON SCADA and/or EDIBON SCADA with PID Control have the following important features: Advanced Real-Time SCADA and PID Control. Open Control + Multicontrol + Real Time Control. Specialized EDIBON Control Software based on Labview. National Instruments Data Acquisition board (250 KS/s, kilo samples per second). Calibration exercises, which are included, teach the user how to calibrate a sensor and the importance of checking the accuracy of the sensors before taking measurements. Electronic Whiteboard and/or projector compatibility allows the unit to be explained and demonstrated to an entire class at one time. Capable of doing applied research, real industrial simulation, training courses, etc. Remote operation and control by the user and remote control for EDIBON technical support, are always included. Totally safe, utilizing 4 safety systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic & Software). Designed and manufactured under several quality standards. Optional CAL software helps the user perform calculations and comprehend the results. Optional CAI Computer Aided Instruction Software System. The unit has been designed for future expansion and integration. A common expansion is the EDIBON Scada-Net (ESN) System which enables multiple students to simultaneously operate many units in a network. Let us explain in a very simple way what mean all these features that we are including in any new or revised catalogue that use, Computer Control with SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control. Advanced Real-Time SCADA and PID Control. First of all, not all EDIBON units require SCADA and PID Control. In some cases the unit requires only SCADA, as PID Control is not necessary. In some other cases, we have to use SCADA and PID Control together. In the new catalogues we always mention in the title if the unit use only SCADA or SCADA with PID Control. If you see Short Form Catalogue, in the lower red square inside the big red Computer Control square we mention, if the unit uses only SCADA or SCADA with PID Control, in other words, EDIBON Computer Control System, SCADA, or SCADA with PID Control. For example, if you see section 9.1 Refrigeration (page 56 in Short Form Catalogue), the unit TPVC Computer Controlled Vortex Tube Refrigerator Unit uses SCADA with PID Control. If you see in the same section TPCC Computer Controlled Contact Plate Freezer uses only SCADA, because this unit doesn t need PID Control. We say Advanced Real-Time SCADA and PID Control because we use the latest technology that allows the complete control system to be very precise and with high efficiency. Open Control + Multicontrol + Real Time Control.

In the EDIBON Computer Control System we use Open Control + Multicontrol +Real Time Control, all three in nearly Real Time. We say Open Control because when we do the PID Control not only we get the complete values or results related with the PID Control, as a total value, as normally all the industrial controllers do, but we seperate the ingredients related with any PID Control formula. In the PID Control formula there are several ingredients involved (you can see in details that information in the EDIBON UCP Computer Controlled Process Control System). We can analyze any process in any unit by changing the Proportional Gain (KC) and/or Integral Time (Ti, Min) and/or Derivative Time (Td, Min). There are some other ingredients that affect the result that can be adjusted one by one, as for example, gain, offset, volts, etc. These Open Control facilities are so important for any teachers as they explain all the concepts involved in the PID Control very quickly and in a clear way for the student to understand. The PID concept, is not clear for most of the professional engineers working today in the industry, but by using EDIBON Computer Control SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control system all the students can get a clear concept, quick understanding and it is easy to teach by the teachers these important concepts. We say Multicontrol because in any general process, in all unitary processes that EDIBON is manufacturing, each unit require several parameters to be analysed and controlled, so we include in our control interface box all the controllers and all electronics required for controlling and manipulating all the sensors and parameters. That means all the parameters or at least most of them involved in the process, that we are interested in analysing. For example, if we take a unit UDCC Computer Controlled Continuous Distillation Unit, if you see in the software in the catalogue on our website, when we say Software Main Screen we mention SCADA and PID Control, you can see 14 temperature sensors, one differential pressure sensor, one flow sensor, one AVS actuator, two AR actuators, two AB actuators. So that is this particular case and same or similar is happening in all SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control EDIBON Units. All the values not only can be seen the amount in the screen, but simultaneously all the curves can be seen on the screen too. We can even analyse the effect and results by changing any values in any actuator. We say that we use Real Time Control because in these SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control all the information arriving to the computer from the unit throughout the interface are electronic signals that move very fast, in nano seconds. Really it is not exactly Real Time as the Real Time is 0 nano seconds and this is not really possible, but it is very close to that. Please do not confuse the real time that computer is receiving the signal after the signals manipulation by the electronic interfaces with process inertia because sometimes some processes take seconds, minutes or even hours to move along. Example: if we are heating a fluid in a tank, it takes several minutes to reach a certain temperature. The process takes long time but the electronics and software used by EDIBON are manipulating in real time all the temperature increase in this particular case. Summarising, Open Control, Multicontrol and Real Time Control are so important when you wish to teach at highest level or you wish to do research. EDIBON IS TODAY THE ONLY COMPANY ON THE MARKET DESIGNING, MANUFACTURING OR SELLING TEACHING EQUIPMENT THAT USES OPEN CONTROL, MULTICONTROL AND REAL TIME CONTROL. Specialized EDIBON Control Software based on Labview. Nowadays Labview is a software structure designed by National Instruments that allows any user to design their own software for their own applications. The Labview software is considered as a very standard one and is very well-known by probably all Departments in all Higher Education Institutions in the world. EDIBON has a close agreement with National Instruments. Both companies are interchanging experiences and results, hat means that we have open authorisation for using this wellknown software structure. When the students are using Laview EDIBON, Labview it means two main things: 3/9

1. All EDIBON Computer Controlled Units have the same software structure so when a teacher or a student is familiar with one EDIBON SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control, he can understand very quickly any other EDIBON teaching unit using SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control. 2. This is very important for the students because this software structure is what they are going to use in the industry. National Instruments Data Acquisition Board (250 KS/s, kilo samples per second). We mentioned before some characteristics of the National Instruments Data Acquisition Board used by EDIBON that allow to get 250 KS/s, kilo samples per second. This Data Acquisition Board is used in so many industries in the world and in most Departments of the Higher Education Institutions. There are many important features for this Data Acquisition Board, but the main ones are: - 16 analog inputs, sampling rate up to: 250 KS/s, kilo samples per second. - 2 analog outputs digital inputs/outputs configurable as inputs or outputs. - Counters/timers:4. - etc. Calibration exercises, which are included, teach the user how to calibrate a sensor and the importance of checking the accuracy of the sensors before taking measurements. Calibration is so important for many reasons but let me say the two main ones: 1. The students have to be mentalized that, before they are using any instruments, they have to analyze if this instrument is calibrated or not or this instruments are properly calibrated. 2. The students have to learn how to calibrate in any EDIBON SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control. We always include the calibration software procedure, that students have to follow and do. The students have to, at least once, calibrate all the sensors involved in any EDIBON unit, so it means they understand and know how important is calibration and how to do it. In order not to create difficulties to the teacher, when we design any SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control, we include for calibration software two codes: one is a manufacturers code that we keep in our factory and second is teacher s code. The teacher s code allows the teacher to, in theory, discalibrate the unit and the student has to run step by step calibration. When the student finishes the calibration, the teacher can check the results and if these are correct, the student can continue running all the experiments. In case, the student doesn t get proper calibration result, the teacher can introduce his own teacher s code and the unit automatically goes back to the original and good calibration situation. In other words, the unit is calibrated automatically. We recommend to see in any unit Software for Sensors Calibration where you can see the sensor name, sensor number, calibration units used, scale used, gain, offset, PTA, volts, etc. There is a complete description for the students exercise to be done the calibration process. Electronic Whiteboard and/or projector compatibility allows the unit to be explained and demonstrated to an entire class at one time. To use Computer Control facilities as SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control has many teaching advantages. But a very important one is that the computer doing SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control can be connected to an electronic whiteboard or and overhead projector and all the students in the classroom can see in Real Time the results you can get from any EDIBON unit. In other words, one teacher and one unit, if we use the classroom and lab in the same place, the students can see all the results that the unit is producing. The teacher can compare the formulas related with any unit operation, with what he writes down on the blackboard and with the results the students can see on the computer screen. Capable of doing applied research, real industrial simulation, training courses, etc. 4/9

When a customer buys EDIBON units or systems, the end customer is looking mainly for a unit with good teaching facilities. That is what EDIBON offers, but additionally the end customer can get several other facilities with no extra cost, using EDIBON Teaching Units as: - To do applied research. - To give courses to industry or other schools. - To train trainers, due to advanced teaching techniques used. Let us analyse these three additional and free of charge EDIBON facilities, in three cases: a) Basic units. b) Computer controlled units (advanced). c) EDIBON systems. Let us explain one by one. a) Basic units. Basic units for Electronics, Telecommunications, Electricity, Electrical Machines, Mechanics and Materials and Fluid Mechanics. - Applied research. For basic units, there is no much applied research as we handle everything at low level, but some applied research can be done comparing the results you get with the industrial units and by using the software facilities and the Data Acquisition System offered by EDIBON. Some industrial installations can be simulated with the basic units and you can analyse the behaviour and you can compare several options and units facilities in order to choose the best one in any case or application. - Courses facilities. Due to not only the clear and good explanation, the physical properties can be demonstrated with any unit, because of we offer CAI (Computer Aided Instructor Software System), CAL (Computer Aided Learning Software (Results Calculation and Analysis), EDAS (EDIBON Data Acquisition System) that can guarantee a HIGH LEVEL COURSES for the industrial workersat very low level. Faults can be included, too. - To train trainers. Even for Basic the teachers training is so important, especially to try to give them a CLEAR CONCEPT. The clear concept can be gotten by using some teaching techniques, as CAI, CAL, EDAS, etc. EDIBON engineers can also explain the reasons of using these teaching techniques, the meaning and the content, as EDIBON is 100% designer of all these techniques. b) Computer Controlled Units. The EDIBON Computer Controlled Units are the most advanced teaching units available in the market, you can do more exercises, frequently double, than any other similar, conventional unit available in the market, but additionally and with no any additional cost you can do, too: - Applied research. With all computer controlled units, we offer: Open control. Multicontrol. Real time control. These three characteristics allow to analyse in details any of the parameters, involved in any EDIBON unit (unitary process). In case of using 50 parameters, you can see the values of all the 50 parameters in real time. Because we work in nearly real time and the data acquisition board capacity, the big amount of information you can get in a second allow the user to get all the facilities for doing research. In case you use a PLC, even several processes can be repeated or several running possibilities can be programmed for long periods. 5/9

Example of one particular applied research: Heat pump efficiency in a country: Imagine, USA. The efficiency of a heat pump varies from different places in the country, as the weather is very different in any place. Imagine that a researcher wishes to have a HEAT PUMP EFFICIENCY in USA, even in any state of the country and with the weather conditions of 365 days per year in any state. The researcher needs mainly three main information: 1. The weather conditions statistics of any USA state for every 365 days of one year in any state. 2. He needs the THBAR22C EDIBON unit. 3. He needs to put in the THBAR22C unit, the weather conditions. The research needs some work to do and take the results for any weather conditions from the THBAR22C EDIBON unit and analyse and organise accordingly. Even the researcher can analyse the matter by using different combination of 2 evaporators and 2 condensers offered by this unit. The researcher can ORGANISE THE RESULTS GOTTEN FROM TH EDIBON UNITS. This is his research. - Courses facilities. With EDIBON computer controlled units you can offer courses to the industry, as: With any computer controlled unit, we simulate most of industrial conditions. We can use PLC as people use in the industry with we can considerfull industrial simulation (In this case we use SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control plus control from PLC). We can offer 8 manuals. We offer many exercises, that cannot be analysed in industrial units or conventional teaching units. The EDIBON system using CONTROL (SCADA + PLC) works in the same way as all industrial possibilities. In the industry you have. Units (processes). Electronics and Electrical (interface). PLC. Computer. Some software for communicating the complete system. THIS IS WHAT EDIBON OFFERS with any computer controlled unit. Faults can be additionally included in any unit. - To train trainers. For training trainers, you need what was explained previously and additionally, to analyse the proper computer controlled teaching techniques itself and to analyse some other complementary teaching techniques, as Scada-Net, where 30 students can work at the same time. c) Systems. EDIBON offers more than 200 different systems. - How to do the applied research? Same explanation as the one given in point b but with many units working together in the case of ESN (EDIBON Scada Net) or particular applications as Power Plants, Refinery Simulator. - Courses. Similar as explained in point b. - Training trainers. 6/9

Similar as explained in point b but with the advantage of the interaction between trainers and trainees. These are really unique systems. Remote operation and control by the user and remote control for EDIBON technical support, are always included. When we have one unit in London, this unit can be used for a teacher and/or student in Sao Paolo. Another unit in London can be connected with our service aftersales engineer in Madrid and the EDIBON engineer can operate the unit from Madrid and by analyzing the results the engineer is getting in our factory, he can see any problem that is happening in the unit and/or any wrong use or any problem with the unit or its use. 7/9 Totally safe, utilizing 4 safety systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic & Software). Any conventional teaching unit cannot be considered as totally safety unit. Let me explain with an example: Supposing a Refrigeration conventional unit, any manufacturer use a safety device, as pressure switch. This safety device protect and everybody thinks that this is enough, but we consider that it is not...why? Supposing, that a pressure switch is broken or blocked for any reason, in this case the unit has no protection. What does EDIBON do with respect to safety? EDIBON uses four safety systems: 1. Mechanical safety device (as all teaching equipment manufacturers). 2. Conventional electrical devices (as all teaching equipment manufacturers). 3. Electronic safety device, included in the electronic interface. (Only EDIBON includes this safety device). 4. Software safety device. (Only EDIBON includes this safety device). Example: Supposing the mechanical or electrical devices fails for any reason, I mean the pressure switch is broken or blocked or cut out for bad student intention. If this is the case, the electronic device works and cut off, in case if pressure increases to the dangerous level. How works? The pressure sensor is regulated for working in a particular range, sending proper milivolts or miliamps to the electronic interface, so if this amount is exceeded the electronic system in the interface CUTS OFF. But supposing that the mechanical safety device fails and the electronic safety device fails or the student cuts out, in this case the software device operates as the software package has been designed for working only inside a particular pressure range. We explain the matter with pressure, but can be the same with voltage, speed, temperature, level, etc. Any sensor used in any EDIBON computer controlled unit, has the same philosophy. When a teacher buys EDIBON computer controlled units, he must know his students and himself are TOTALLY PROTECTED. SO THE EDIBON TEACHING UNITS ARE THE ONLY ONE IN THE MARKET TOTALLY SAFETY. Designed and manufactured underseveral quality standards. Let me remember you that EDIBON units you see in our website HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED BY US, AND WE HAVE DONE THE QUALITY CONTROL and we keep all the results obtained at the quality control operation.

All EDIBON units have been designed and manufactures with the following quality certificates: - ISO 9001:2008. Certificate of Approval of the Quality Management System. - ISO14001:2004. Certificate of Approval of the Environmental Management System. - Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Validation Details. - Worldidac member Certificate. - UE Conformity Declaration. (CE Certificate) - The Global Compact Joint Certificate (including the Global Compact Ten Principles). - Chamber Trust Trademark. Optional CAL software helps the user perform calculations and comprehend the results. 8/9 Additionally, on customer s request, we can offer a Computer Aided Learning Software (Results Calculation and Analysis) CAL. This software is a class assistant that helps in doing the necessary calculations to extract the right conclusion from data obtaining during the experimental practices. CAL computes the value of all the variables involved and performs the calculations. It gets proper results curves and plotting and printing the results you are getting from any sensor (parameters involved in the process). It is possible to compare different curves and results. It has a wide range of information, such as constant value, unit conversion factors and integral and derivatives tables. On one table we introduce the data obtained when we are running the exercises, after that the physical constants theoretically involved with the field we are studying can be shown. The constants can be modified at any convenience by using the appropriate values. By a simple click, the software is doing all the calculation and several kinds of curves can be obtained. By using this software the students can use many mathematical formulas related with the process. Optional CAI Computer Aided Instruction Software System. This complete software package consists on an Instructor Software (INS/SOF) totally integrated with the Student/Unit Software (CAI/SOF). Both are interconnected so that the teacher knows at any moment what is the theoretical and practical knowledge of the students. - INS/SOF. Classroom Management Software (Instructor Software): The Instructor can: Organize Students by Classes and Groups. Create easily new entries or delete them. Create data bases with student information. Analyze results and make statistical comparisons. Generate and print reports. Detect student s progress and difficulties....and many other facilities. The Instructor Software, working in network configuration, allows controlling all the students in the classroom. - CAI/SOF. Computer Aided Instruction Software (Student/Unit Software): It explains how to use the unit, run the experiments and what to do at any moment. This Software contains: Theory. Exercises. Guided Practices. Exams. The unit has been designed for future expansion and integration. A common expansion is the EDIBON Scada-Net (ESN) System which enables multiple students to simultaneously operate many units in a network.

When a customer buys an EDIBON Computer Controlled Unit with SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control, opens the future for using very advanced and practical facilities. Example: if customer buys today one Computer Controlled Unit with SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control, tomorrow this unit can be integrated in EDIBON SCADA NET (ESN) System that allows up to 30 students to work simultaneously. If customer buys a manual or conventional unit, never can get the SCADA NET System. If a customer buys EDIBON Computer Controlled Units with SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control today, opens the door to use classroom and lab in the same place. One teacher can teach theory and practice in the same place, so theory and practice can be compared and analyzed at any time. This EDIBON system allows the students to understand quickly, clearly and saving time and allows the teacher to teach quickly, easily, saving time and with much more efficiency. So this system globally has lower teachers and students cost. The third window open for the future is the possibility of using Real Time Technical Distance Learning (TDL). Example: one unit can be in EDIBON factory in Madrid. This unit is controlled by SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control from a computer nearby the unit, doing EDIBON SCADA and/or SCADA with PID Control. This computer in Madrid can be connected by Internet with another computer in New York, and the user in New York can run the unit exactly the same like the user in Madrid. By using webcam even the user in New York can see the unit itself. 9/9
