1 DGTL 290 Digital Media Production Internship Proposed Start: Fall 2016 Instructor's Name: Office Location: Office Hours: Office Phone: Course Description: Participation in a learning experience at a department approved workplace in an area of digital media under the supervision of both the college and the employer. The credit hours for the course can vary from one to three. A minimum of 75 contact hours working at the internship site is required for each credit hour in an approved internship position over the course of the semester. This experience is meant to be an opportunity for the student to gain valuable work experience, knowledge and applied skills in an industry position. Students will be required to maintain and submit to the instructor; weekly journal entries, an end of semester portfolio, summary report of the experience and periodic employer performance evaluations. Students will be required to meet with the instructor during the first week of the semester and then periodically throughout the internship. Students seeking an internship opportunity can contact the department program coordinator or Career Services for assistance locating an interested employer and obtaining a copy of the Joliet Jr. College Internship Handbook containing procedures and required forms. Prior to beginning an internship all students must contact the department for workplace approval, consent and process initialization at least 8 weeks prior to the desired semester. Apply program learning outcomes to work-based learning experiences. 2. Develop a portfolio of work created during the internship experience. 3. Submit weekly reflections describing the program knowledge and skills being used in the workplace. 4. Provide reactions to work experiences as they relate to internship goals/outcomes. 5. Demonstrate punctuality, reliability and professionalism in the workplace. 6. Demonstrate ability to work independently, effectively and with determined initiative. 7. Demonstrate ability to perform tasks as assigned, and meeting or surpassing stated quality expectations. General Education Student learning outcomes: Students will demonstrate an ability to think critically and analytically. Students will demonstrate organized and coherent communication, both oral and written. Students will demonstrate an ability to understand the physical world. Graded assignments and policies:

3 Graded Assignments Weekly journal entries, final portfolio, summary report, employer periodic and final performance evaluations and Program Coordinator periodic and final reviews. Part 3. Grading policy A = %, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F < 60% 30% - Journal entries and reports, 20% - Portfolio, 50% - Performance evaluations Major Tests and Quizzes None Classroom Policies and Procedures A. General Information Students do not report to any class meeting times at all during the semester. The student earns college credits for working in an internship position for a preapproved employer, by completing all paperwork by the assigned due dates, meeting the required number of employed internship hours, meeting employer and program coordinator performance expectations. The Joliet Junior College Internship Handbook Guidelines and Procedures prepared by Career Services Center details the internship process and contains the required forms and agreements that must be completed by students, employer and the department and submitted to the Program Coordinator for approval. The Internship Handbook can be obtained from the Program Coordinator or Career Services. While participating in the internship position, the student will act in a professional and appropriate manner as a representative of the Joliet Junior College Digital Media Production Program. Enrollment in this internship course and working in this approved internship position, in no way makes the student exempt from all policies of the employer. If the student is found to be terminated from employment for unacceptable behavior, poor work ethics, lack of teamwork, punctuality, etc., the student may receive a failing grade for this course. At the end of the course, students should have a better understanding of the industry, recognize the importance of professionalism and commitment, and should better appreciate the execution of digital media projects in a professional environment. While employed in this internship position, it is expected that the student have some direct contact with the public, and experience various facets of the profession. The student is responsible for procuring the internship location, he/she may request assistance from the Department and Career Services. B. Attendance Policy C. Make-up Policy D. Extra-credit Policy

Academic Honor Code The objective of the academic honor code is to sustain a learning-centered environment in which all students are expected to demonstrate integrity, honor, and responsibility, and recognize the importance of being accountable for one's academic behavior. College Statement about grades of 'F' and withdrawal from class o Students may withdraw from a course by processing an add/drop form during regular office hours through the Registration and Records Office at Main Campus or Romeoville Campus, or by phone at Please note the withdrawal dates listed on your bill or student schedule. Every course has its own withdrawal date. Failure to withdraw properly may result in a failing grade of 'F' in the course. o At any time prior to the deadline dates established, an instructor may withdraw a student from class because of poor attendance, poor academic performance or inappropriate academic behavior, such as, but not limited to, cheating or plagiarism. H. Intellectual Property Students own and hold the copyright to the original work they produce in class. It is a widely accepted practice to use student work as part of the college's internal self-evaluation, assessment procedures, or other efforts to improve teaching and learning and in promoting programs and recruiting new students. If you do not wish your work to be used in this manner, please inform the instructor. I. College Documentation Styles Course Outline Week Unit, Topic, Class Activity Employment contract (Cooperative Agreement) and Internship Agreement forms must be completed by student and employer and submitted to DGTL Program coordinator by end of week. Student should begin putting together thoughts for the final journal comprehensive summary due at the end of next week. Student will meet with Program Coordinator for progress update and to discuss the final experience report requirements and expectations.
