3 AMD Phenom Phenom : AMD desktop processor line based on the K10 (not "K10h") microarchitecture, or Family 10h Processors. Phenom II processors deliver unbeatable multi-core value with superior high definition computing, advanced multitasking performance, and innovative, energy efficient solutions. Triple-core versions Phenom 8000 series and quad cores Phenom X series. AMD considers the Quad core Phenoms to be the first "true" quad core design, monolithic multi-core design (all cores on the same piece of silicon die), unlike Intel's Core 2 Quad series which are a multi-chip module (MCM) design. The processors are on the Socket AM2+ platform.

7 AMD Phenom II Features: Flaw in TLB (Translation Lookaside Buffer) -----> system lock-up in rare circumstances performance penalty of at least 10% (BIOS and software workarounds disable the TLB) up to stepping B2 "B3" stepping Phenom processors were released March 2008 without the TLB bug and with "xx50" model numbers. 8 AMD Phenom II Features: The Phenom II triples (change from the original Phenom): the shared L3 cache size from 2MB to 6MB, leading to benchmark performance gains as high as 30%. Cool'n'Quiet is a CPU speed throttling and power saving technology introduced by AMD with their Athlon 64 processor line. It works by reducing the processor's clock rate and voltage when the processor is idle. The aim of this technology is to reduce overall power consumption and lower heat generation, allowing for slower (thus quieter) cooling fan operation. Cool 'n Quiet applies as a whole, rather than on a per-core basis. AMD implemented this in order to address the mishandling of threads by Windows Vista, which can cause single-threaded applications to run on a core that idles at half its clock rate. Socket AM2+ versions lack forward-compatibility with Socket AM3. Socket AM3 versions are backwards-compatible with Socket AM2+. BIOS updates In addition to the Phenom II's pin compatibility, the AM3 memory controller supports both DDR2 and DDR3 memory > allowing existing AM2+ users to upgrade their CPU without changing the motherboard or memory.
