1 The great city Babylon Babylon s worldly treasures The great city of vice, carnality, and choice. Choosing between earthly treasures and heavenly treasures. Choosing between lust and God. Choosing between that which fades away and that which is eternal. Regardless of the source or deception offered, man makes a choice to accept or reject God. The fall of Babylon The greater the city, the greater the fall. When Babylon falls so does the world s economy. When Babylon falls so does the hopes and dreams of wicked men. 2 Habitation of foul spirits Babylon is the control center for wickedness both spiritually and physically on earth. Babylon is the world trade center of spiritual darkness as well as commerce among men. Evil of every kind lurks and resides in Babylon. Babylon is the spiritual cesspool of the world. Babylon s global influence The world is fully caught up in the unholy activities of Babylon. The kings on earth are drunk with status and personal enrichment. Babylon rules the world and the kings of the earth by vice and spiritual corruption. Come out of her! Come out and be judged with her plagues! God s people and the lost and saved of Israel. God s people includes saved Gentiles. Jesus claims Jewish ancestry through Mary to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Gentile believers are included in Jewish ancestry through Jesus. 3 Babylon s double reward Babylon s reward is for her sins. Babylon s reward is for her slaughter of God s people. For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. Obadiah 1:15 The impudence of Babylon Babylon glorifies herself. Babylon rules the world as queen of the nations. Babylon s down fall will match her vision of being lifted up. Security and power is found in the Creator not in the created. The judgment of Babylon Babylon is destroyed in one hour. Trust in worldly possessions is trust in false security. 4 Babylon s benefactors lament Babylon s demise is the demise of worldly treasures and security. World commerce comes to an abrupt halt. Lost fruit of worldly treasures Babylon s destruction is destruction of world commerce. Profit on exploiting enslaved people ends. Profit on spiritual deception ends. Babylon s demise is the merchants demise. An economic empire is fallen. Heavenly rejoicing Heaven rejoices over all the good that will come from the purging of evil. Wrongs are made right.
