2 We think that our parishes and school should be called St. Kateri Tekakwitha, because she followed her dreams. She even continued her mission when other Native Americans disapproved of her being Catholic.

4 What Her Life Looked Like St. Kateri Tekakwitha was a Native American. When she was four years old, St. Kateri Tekakwitha had smallpox and that left scars on her skin. Her family died during that outbreak of smallpox. When St. Kateri Tekakwitha was 19 years old, she converted to Catholicism and pledged to marry Jesus only. Kateri Tekakwitha was known for fasting. She was very frail and sickly so fasting endangered her health. At age 24, St. Kateri Tekakwitha died only five years into Catholicism.

She was also the first Native American Saint. St. Kateri Tekakwitha was brave, she told her adopted parents that she would not marry and would marry Jesus in the future although she didn t know yet. St. Kateri Tekakwitha was a hard worker, and patient. These are goals everyone should work harder at achieving.

9 Why I chose St.Kateri tekakwitha I chose St.Kateri because I think that she didn t care that she was being persecuted by her tribe.that shows that she was very devoted to God and the Catholic religion.

10 why we should name our school after St. kateri tekakwitha - she was very brave to become Catholic. - she was persecuted by her tribe. - she was like royalty before she became a Catholic but she gave it all up to become a Christian. - she was an independent woman.

18 why we should name our tri parish cluster St. Kateri tekakwitha Saint Kateri Tekakwitha was born in She was baptized APril 18, She received her first Communion on Christmas day. She died on Holy Wednesday April We wanted to name the school St. Kateri Tekakwitha because she was very brave, and she is the FIRST Native American Saint. She refused to get married because she said, Jesus is my only love.

24 Kateri Tekakwitha Kateri was born in the year She was born unto a Mohawk and Warrior, which was her father, and an Algonquin, which was her mother. During the time Kateri was born, small pox was invading her community and her family died due to the illness. Kateri was left with scars that followed her throughout her life.

25 Kateri Tekakwitha When her family died, Kateri was raised shortly by a family friend, and then adopted by her uncle. Her uncle was a Mohawk Chief. Kateri was a skilled worker and worked diligently in all that she did. When she was given the option of marriage, she turned it down and refused to marry. She promised to only marriage her love for Jesus Christ and serve him always.

26 Kateri Tekakwitha Years after refusing marriage, Kateri left her community. She fled to a Christian community south of Montreal. In order to prove her love for Jesus, Kateri slept with thorns under her mat, tainted her food to disguise the flavor and fasted. Kateri often prayed for the conversion of her fellow Mohawks.

27 Kateri Tekakwitha Kateri taught young children to pray and prayed with the elderly and sick. She devoted her entire life to the pleasing of Jesus Christ and was devoted to the Blessed Sacrament. Wherever she traveled, Kateri spread the word of Jesus Christ and showed her love for him to all.

28 Kateri Tekakwitha Kateri Tekakwitha is known as the patron saint of ecology, the environment, and people in exile. She was a kind woman who aimed to please and serve God and give all that she had to him. She prayed daily, even if it meant that she wasn t allowed to eat.

29 Kateri Tekakwitha Due to her self-mortification to please God, she diminished her health throughout the years. She became very ill just five years after her conversion to Catholicism. Kateri died at a young age of 24 on April 17, Kateri is taken from the Mohawk form of Catherine, taken from Catherine of Sienna.
