Coordination action in Norway, with 50% funding from NRC Scope is 5G, but what is 5G? 4G++, integrating novel and legacy technologies 5G requirements on how to significantly strech performance on capacity, e2e latency, energy consumption, costs, scalability IT too? Internet of X too? 2

3 Goals of 5G-SIG Coordinate and help to increase the utilization of results produced by Norwegian scientists in the area of 5G. Create the liaison to the European Technology Platform NetWorld2020. Identify research opportunities in 5G technologies, applications and services, focusing on the Norwegian context. Form a research and development community with a focus on challenges in 5G issues. Assist emerging ideas to find support for research in 5G from the appropriate funding agencies at national and European level. 3

4 Added-value of 5G-SIG Enhance visibility: networking activities, strengthening Norwegian participation in Horizon 2020 ICT programs on a non-competitive basis Representation of topics: everything covered Mapping of Norwegian competence Norway's specifics; small community, telecommunication industry in Norway, topology/climate Influence the European workprogramme Participation to SRIA Understand what the Commission expects in terms of impacts (tangible plans & visible innovation) Influence the national workprogramme Strategic Research Roadmap (SRR) In view of IKTpluss future workprogramme and calls Starting new initiatives with a selection of partners 4

8 European platform ETP NetWorld General Assembly - All NetWorld2020 members are represented in the General Assembly. Steering Board - There are 30 member organizations with voting rights and 5 observers without voting rights. Executive Group - The Steering Board may delegate organizational issues. Working Groups - Working Groups support the Steering Board by developing position papers in specific areas of interest. 8

12 Focus on research and innovation within 5G-SIG Innovation is mainstreamed in H2020: address it or die! Innovation important in Norway too Innovation can arise from R&D/new technologies Combining existing technologies New business models Innovation introduces new products, social innovation. The weight of each innovation type depends on the particular call, but TRL5-7 usually prevails Same innovation criteria for R&I and I types of actions within H2020. Innovation and exploitation are common to both. 12
