Other castles of interest in the area are Schloss Nymphenburg (within the city of Munich), Hohenschwangau, the Pilgrimage Church of Wies near Steingaden, a breathtaking Rococo church, and Schloss Linderhof, an extravagantly decorated hillside castle. 4 2 T h e c a r i l l o n o f t h e to w n h a l l at t h e M a r i e n p l at z The town hall s world-famous carillon at the Marienplatz plays the Schäfflertanz daily during the summer months at 11 am, 12 noon and 5 pm. With its 43 bells and 32 life-sized figures it tells the story of Duke Wilhelm V s marriage to Renata of Lorraine.

5 3 B e e r G a r d e n C u lt u r e i n Bava r i a a n d t h e E n g l i s h G a r d e n Munich and its surrounding areas are known for some of the most beautiful beer gardens in the country. These beer gardens are all planted with chestnut trees and offer relaxing places in the shade. The English Garden has an area of 3,7km²/1.4 sq mi and is one of the world s largest urban public parks. Its natural beauty offers the ideal place for all kind of leisure activities. 6 4 O k to b e r f e s t M i d S e p t e m b e r to f i r s t w e e k e n d i n O c to b e r Munich s World-Famous Bavarian Beer Festival Oktoberfest is the largest beer festival in the world and one with a decidedly international flavor as some six-million visitors from all over the world converge on Munich for the festivities each year. Because Oktoberfest is held on the Theresienwiese, locals refer to the event simply as the Wies n.

7 5 T h e H o f b r ä u h au s The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is the most famous beer hall in the world and located in the city center of Munich, just a few steps away from the hotel. The inn was originally built in 1598 and the general public was admitted only in 1828 by king Ludwig I. The restaurant comprises the inn, a ballroom as well as a beer garden. Its menu features Bavarian dishes such as roast pork, pork knuckle and sausages as well as Weisswurst. The "Helles" is served in a Maß

9 7 M u s e u m s i n M u n i c h The Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest art galleries in the world, while the Neue Pinakothek features art and sculptures from the late 18th to the beginning of the 20th century. 12 10 C h r i s t m a s M a r k e t s i n M u n i c h Munich s legendary Christmas markets are open from the first weekend of Advent until 24 December and different styles of markets can be visited daily. Some are within walking distance of the hotel, such as the market at the Marienplatz. Also interesting is the market at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden or the one at the Tollwood Festival.
