2 The GRE revised General Test what s changing and why it s good news for you. A graduate or business degree can give you a big career advantage. An important step toward achieving your goals is to take the GRE General Test. It s the one test that is accepted by thousands of graduate programs worldwide, including a rapidly growing number of MBA and other business school programs. Starting August 1, 2011, the GRE revised General Test will replace the current GRE General Test, giving you an even better test experience and new types of questions that help show your readiness for graduate-level work. Here s what you can expect with the GRE revised General Test: More real-life scenarios to reflect the kind of thinking you will do in today s demanding graduate and business school programs Less reliance on vocabulary out of context, more emphasis on reading and no antonyms or analogies Many new design features, including the ability to edit or change your answers, skip questions and more, all within a section, allowing you to use more of your own personal test-taking strategies New question types, such as entering a number or providing more than one response when asked, so you can better demonstrate what you know The introduction of an on-screen calculator for the Quantitative Reasoning section* * For those taking the paper-based GRE revised General Test, calculators will be provided at the test center for use during the test. 3 Take the GRE test at the location of your choice. There are about 700 test centers in more than 160 countries so you can find a location that is convenient for you. The computer-based test is available throughout the year in most regions of the world. And, in areas of the world where computer-based testing is not available, the GRE revised General Test will be administered in a paper-based format. Important news for test takers in China (including Hong Kong), Korea and Taiwan If you re taking the test in these areas starting in August 2011, with the introduction of the GRE revised General Test, the split-test administration will be eliminated and will be replaced with more frequent computer-based testing. There will now be one to two fixed administrations per month, with the first administration on August 6, You will be able to take the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections on computer all on the same day and in the same sitting. Another benefit is that computer-based testing will allow faster score reporting for you, once score reporting returns to the regular day turnaround schedule in December For the period October November 2011, please check the GRE website for special score reporting timelines. Important news about the paper-based GRE revised General Test For those taking the paper-based GRE revised General Test, the test design and question types will be modified to be appropriate for a paper-based, linear test. The first paper-based administration of the GRE revised General Test will be October 22, Score reports will continue to be reported on the normal 6-week reporting basis for paper-based tests. If you need your scores before November 2011, you must take the current GRE General Test before August 1, Last Dates to Take the Current Split Test in China (including Hong Kong), Korea and Taiwan Computer-based Analytical Writing Section September 19, 2010 May 7, 2011 Paper-based Verbal & Quantitative Sections June 11, 2011* Last Dates to Take the Current Paper-based Test October 23, 2010; November 20, 2010; February 12, 2011 Seats will fill up quickly, so register soon to get the seat and location of your choice. Not all test dates are available in all locations, so check the GRE website for more information. 4 How you can get ready now. The GRE revised General Test is coming on August 1, 2011, and there are a few ways you can start getting ready for it right now: 1. Check the score submission deadlines of the institutions to which you are applying: a. If you take the GRE revised General Test during our special offer period of August September 2011, you can save 50%. Your scores will be sent by mid-november. b. If you take the test in October November 2011, check the detailed score reporting schedule on the GRE website to see what day your scores will be sent. c. Starting in December 2011, GRE score reporting returns to the regular reporting period of days after test date.* d. If a school needs your scores before November 2011, you must take the current test before August 2011 to make sure you have your scores in time. 2.
