HP Business Continuity Services Is your business agile enough to respond to whatever comes your way?
Ask the right questions. If your business is like most others today, its success depends heavily on the continuous operation of its business processes. Interruption of any kind whether planned or unplanned can affect not only your organization s costs, but also its direct revenue, customer retention, corporate reputation, and stock price. Given these concerns, you may want to ask the following: How much downtime can my business tolerate before operations and customer satisfaction are adversely impacted? What level of data loss can my business tolerate without serious consequences? What level of protection does each of your business processes require? The government continues to implement requirements for protection against loss of data and IT infrastructures. In addition, newer regulatory mandates such as Sarbanes Oxley, Basel II, HIPAA, and others dictate the need to keep critical business processes running and have data continuously available. It s time to ask: Does my industry have such requirements and, if so, how do my current practices measure up? Different locations and companies face different risks. Some face various geographical or natural risks such as long-term power outages, floods, storms, earthquakes, and epidemics. Other risks for example, employee strikes, sabotage, human error, security breaches, and even terrorism have a greater human element. Given these risks, ask yourself: How much risk can our company afford to take, and how does that differ by business process? About HP Business Continuity Services HP a leader in strategic business continuity and availability can help assess your organization s precise needs and create a tailored and cost-effective strategy for addressing them. Using an approach that has been tested and proven in hundreds of client engagements, our experts help align your continuity plan to your business objectives, develop and rehearse the plan, train your personnel, and assist you in actively evolving your plan as business processes, personnel, and IT systems change. HP Business Continuity Services are designed to help you adapt to ever-changing business conditions and new challenges. This ability to cost-effectively meet and embrace change is integral to HP s vision of the Adaptive Enterprise, where business and IT are synchronized to capitalize on change. 2

Our business continuity experts understand that most companies require a mix of continuity and recovery strategies. Through successful, real-world experience with diverse businesses around the world, we employ an objective, proven approach to help you build and maintain the continuity solutions most appropriate for you. Key benefits HP Business Continuity Services are designed to: Free you to focus on running the most critical parts of your business Provide business continuity at a cost that s in line with your risk Lessen disruption to your IT infrastructure and associated business processes Maintain your brand recognition and customer loyalty Boost the efficiency and productivity of your IT staff by automating and simplifying the recovery process Transfer knowledge and skills to your staff to help them expedite recovery time Help your organization meet legal and regulatory requirements HP Business Continuity Consulting is built upon the proven, HP Services phased methodology: analyze; design/build/integrate; manage/evolve. Your ability to develop and maintain an effective business continuity plan depends on following each of these steps. HP can provide as little or as much assistance with this process as you require. In fact, key characteristics that differentiate our services from those of our competitors are our flexibility and willingness to adapt our portfolio of services to meet your needs. We take a lifecycle approach to building lasting solutions to help you preserve the continuity and availability of your business. Our goal is to work with you in a way that contributes to your business success and mitigates risks through industry best practices. Working together with you, we can build a roadmap for a resilient IT environment. 3
Services include: Business Continuity Infrastructure Design and Implementation provides a detailed design (depending on your predefined recovery objectives, strategies, and scenarios) and implements the technology infrastructure needed to recover assets and continue business processes. Business Continuity Plan Development includes design and development of a customized business continuity plan that outlines the people, processes, and technologies required to recover and continue your critical business functions after a business interruption or disaster. We use a proven methodology to develop the plan and transfer knowledge to your staff. Manage/Evolve This phase helps you keep your business continuity plan in line with your business requirements and objectives. Analyze In this phase, HP consultants clarify your business requirements and help to determine the most appropriate business continuity strategies for your needs. Services include: Business Continuity Assessment provides a high-level assessment of your current business continuity program and your environment from a disaster-prevention and preparedness perspective; identifies key business risks and exposures; analyzes your current capabilities in comparison with industry best practices; and provides high-level recommendations for improvement. Business Impact Analysis identifies processes that are critical to the livelihood of your business; identifies the qualitative and quantitative business impact of downtime; defines target recovery-time objectives (RTOs) and recovery-point objectives (RPOs). Risk Assessment defines the events and environmental conditions that can adversely affect your IT supported business processes, with assessments of probability and potential impact. An in-depth report identifies areas of risk and exposure and provides recommendations for improvement. Services include: Business Continuity Program Management focuses on making sure that your continuity plan and processes continue to meet your needs. Included are: Business continuity rehearsal management validates whether your plan will achieve your predefined RTOs and RPOs by execution of tests and simulations of predefined recovery and contingency procedures. Business continuity plan maintenance updates your plan based on results of rehearsals, audits and assessments. Business continuity training enhances the ongoing success of your program through training programs for management, business users, and IT personnel. Business Continuity Plan Audit reviews and critiques your existing business continuity approach from a structure and content perspective. Design/Build/Integrate In this phase, HP consultants help you define your business continuity strategy and then collaborate with you to design an architecture and create an implementation plan. They also work with you to develop and implement your business continuity solution, following the strategy and design you have selected. 4
Our process and our service levels Design Analyze The process Build/ Integrate Solutions Disaster tolerant Recovery objective 0 to 8 hours Recovery objective 8 to 72 hours Service levels Business recovery Recovery objective 72+ hours Evolve Manage Backup/Recovery Three levels of service to meet your business process needs Once our business continuity consulting professionals have analyzed your existing environment and helped you quantify your RTO, RPO, and other continuity requirements, they can build a solution at any of the three following continuity levels for each of your key business processes: Disaster Tolerant Services for an RTO of 0 to 7 hours and an RPO of less than one hour Business Recovery Services for an RTO of 8 to 72 hours and an RPO of less than 24 hours Backup and Recovery Services for an RTO of more than 72 hours and an RPO of more than 24 hours Disaster Tolerant Services Disaster Tolerant Services are HP s most stringent level of business continuity offerings, intended for business processes that require limited or no interruption for users, and essentially no data loss. Disaster Tolerant Design and Implementation For your most critical business processes, HP Services can design and implement disaster tolerant infrastructures. We can split data and potentially clusters across two geographically separate data centers, for maximum resilience. The clusters can share production workloads, and if one site fails, the failover process is completed within minutes. Managed Disaster Tolerant Service HP Services experts can also manage your disaster tolerant solution and physically house your disaster tolerant environment. With proven HP expertise, this can provide both cost and quality benefits. As part of your solution, we can also more broadly manage portions or all of your storage environment. Most importantly, we can help you develop and manage a solution your business can depend on not just disparate, non-integrated technologies that can fail to deliver when your business needs them the most. Disaster Tolerant Services Solution Center HP Disaster Tolerant Management Services are delivered by our Disaster Tolerant Services Solution Center, whose consultants have more than 15 years experience in engineering, delivering, and supporting disaster tolerant configurations. HP has unparalleled expertise in disaster tolerance, built on more than 20 years experience in distributed/clustered computing environments. Business Recovery Services Business Recovery Services promote rapid recovery of data-center based as well as office-based business processes, at a cost in line with your risk and the defined value of each business process. While they satisfy lessstringent recovery objectives than do our Disaster Tolerant Services, HP Business Recovery Services typically cost about 90 percent less making them an attractive alternative for many less-critical business processes and applications. Contracts for these services offer a great deal of flexibility, so that you can select the precise level of service you need. 5
The HP approach is highly collaborative guiding you to the best possible solution for your unique environment. These services may be delivered out of any of the more than 65 global HP Recovery Centers. Because all of our business recovery services involve shared subscription equipment and facilities, we think it s important for you to know that HP places some of the strictest limitations in the industry on shared recovery subscriptions. We limit subscriptions for each piece of equipment to 25 customers or less, and we geographically separate our subscribers all to give you a much higher level of assurance of successful recovery than you would get from most other vendors. BRS also includes an annual disaster rehearsal. This consultative learning experience is a key value-added service that can help you meet or exceed your recovery objectives. Business Recovery for the Data Center Loaner IT infrastructure and technical assistance provided either at an HP recovery center (known as a hot site or warm site) or at your alternate site. Recovery-center based services are available at two levels: critical and core. The critical level provides an RTO of 8 to 24 hours, using proprietary tools and processes for storing your configuration data at the recovery center. The core level provides an RTO of 24 to 72 hours and involves either use of an HP Recovery Center, shipping loaner hardware to your alternate data center, or deploying a fully equipped mobile recovery center to the location of your choice. Electronic Vaulting Based on years of experience with backup and recovery installations throughout the world, HP developed the HP Electronic Vaulting Service. The goal of this service is to significantly reduce your internal backup and recovery efforts. We do this through a comprehensive solution that protects your data at a secure remote location and enables you to restore your critical business data whenever needed. This service performs highly secure, automated disk backup of your critical business data to a remote HP recovery center. When deployed as part of a solution that includes HP Business Recovery for the Data Center, Electronic Vaulting can help you to greatly reduce your recovery time (the time required to resume your business processes following a business interruption). It may also greatly reduce the amount of data that you could potentially lose due to an outage (compared with the potential data loss that daily tape backup brings with it). Most importantly, for a high-quality level of service, it can provide these benefits at less cost than tape backup! Office Recovery Business continuity is not just about recovering your IT data centers; it s also about restoring your people-based processes, including call-center processing, order entry, and trading floors. HP Services provides work-area recovery facilities and supporting voice and data infrastructures worldwide. These fixed and mobile recovery facilities include fully equipped desks and office equipment such as PCs, advanced telephony-switching equipment, and data/audio network connectivity, as well as recovery experts to assist your key personnel. Business-process and datacenter recovery can also be incorporated into this service. Backup and Recovery Services Backup and Recovery Services are designed to provide a basic level of data and IT recovery at the lowest possible cost. This collection of services consists of tape-based backup and recovery strategies and procedures, frequency determination, retention policies, and backup management design and implementation for HP OpenView Data Protector or VERITAS NetBackup. Also available at this level is our Asset Protection (Recover- All) Service, which extends your maintenance support contract to provide priority repair or replacement of HP equipment damaged during a disaster. Priority delivery of replacement equipment typically takes place within 72 hours of disaster verification and equipment order, depending on geographical location. (Delivery within 72 hours is guaranteed within the United States.) With this service, you receive a permanent system that is quickly restored to working order. You incur no hardware replacement costs and are reimbursed for many IT recovery costs, including any recovery invocation fees and daily usage charges. Recover-All s combination of recovery management, service delivery based on our knowledge of your account, and affordable pricing creates an ideal solution. You may use Backup and Recovery Services alone to provide a minimal level of recovery protection, or you may combine them with Business Recovery Services. 6
