1 UNI Equivalents for Courses from Hawkeye Community College UNI equivalents are designated by a departmental abbreviation followed by a course number. For example, in the course PSYCH 1001 the PSYCH refers to the Departments of Psychology and the 1001 refers to the course. When an equivalent is listed as PSYCH 1000 (e.g. PSYCH 1000Z) the letter at the end indicates that the content of the transfer psychology course is not similar to the content of any UNI psychology course to be given a direct equivalent. When a course accepted for transfer does not seem to fit into any department at the University it will be given an equivalent of UNIV 1000Z. Even though these transfer courses may not be given exact UNI equivalents, they are still approved for transfer credit. If a course satisfies a Liberal Arts Core (LAC) requirement, the category is indicated in the LAC column. If students are trying to satisfy requirements in an older UNI Liberal Arts program, they should consult the Office of Admissions at or Accounting ACC 131 Prin of Accounting I ACCT ACC 132 Prin of Accounting II ACCT ACC 924 Honors Project ACCT 1000Z -- Anthropology ANT 105 Cultural Anthropology ANTH Art ART 101 Art Appreciation ARTHIST ART 106 Art Appreciation Studio ART ART D Design ART ART D Design ART ART 133 Drawing I ART ART 134 Drawing II ART ART 143 Painting ART ART 144 Painting II ART 1000Z -- ART 173 Ceramics ART ART 184 Photography TECH 1000Z -- ART 203 Art History I ARTHIST A ART 204 Art History II ARTHIST A ART 924 Honors Project-Fine Arts ART 1000Z -- ART 928 Independent Study ART 1000Z -- Biology BIO 105 Introductory Biology BIOL 1000AL -- BIO 112 General Biology I BIOL A BIO 113 General Biology II BIOL A BIO 150 Fund of Nutrition NUTR BIO 151 Nutrition NUTR 1000Z -- BIO 154 Human Biology BIOL BIO 163 Essentials of Anatomy & Phys BIOL 1000AL -- BIO 168 Human Anatomy & Phys I BIOL 1000AL -- BIO 173 Human Anatomy & Phys II BIOL 1000AL -- BIO 185 Microbiology w/lab BIOL A BIO 186 Microbiology with Lab BIOL A BIO 924 Honors Project BIOL 1000Z -- BIO 928 Independent Study BIOL 1000Z -- Business BUS 102 Intro to Business MGMT 1000Z -- BUS 180 Business Ethics MGMT 1000Z -- BUS 183 Business Law MGMT 1000Z -- BUS 210 Business Statistics MATH 1000M -- BUS 220 Intro International Business MGMT 1000Z -- BUS 230 Quant Meth Bus Decision Making ECON 1021 MAT 156 Statistics & BUS 210 Business Statistics STAT 1772 ECON 1011 Business Computer Apps BCA 201 Intro to Info Systems MGMT Career Technical Course Credit XXX XX1 Career Technical Course Credit XXX 100ITZ -- XXX XXX Career Technical Course Credit XXX 100Z -- Chemistry CHM 122 Intro to General Chemistry CHEM 1000AL -- CHM 132 Intro Organic & Biochemistry CHEM B CHM 165 General Chemistry I CHEM B CHM 175 General Chemistry II CHEM B CHM 260 Organic Chemistry I CHEM B CHM 270 Organic Chem II CHEM B CHM 924 Honors Project CHEM 1000Z -- CHM 928 Independent Study CHEM 1000Z -- Coaching Officiating PEC 110 Coaching Ethics, Tchnq, Theory PEMES 1000Z -- PEC 115 Athletic Dev & Human Growth PEMES 1000Z -- PEC 123 Anatomy for Coaching PEMES 1000Z -- PEC 127 Care & Prev of Athl Injuries AT Communication CM 134T Performance of Literature COMM B Communication COM 140 Intro to Mass Media COMM COR COM 143 Media Messages: Printed Page COMM J 1000Z -- COM 144 Media Messages: TV & Movies COMM EM 1000Z -- COM 147 Media Messages: World Wide Web XXX 1000Z -- Office of Admissions University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls, IA Phone: (800) admissions@uni.edu 1/5

5 Important Information Regarding Transfer Credit Two Year College Credit Not more than 65 semester hours from a two-year college may be applied toward the UNI degree. Additional work is entered on your record and may be used to meet specific course requirements but is not mathematically included in degree totals. Required Courses Course work taken at other institutions will satisfy specified major and minor requirements when these courses are evaluated as exact equivalents of courses in major and minor requirements at UNI. Course work taken at other institutions will be applied to UNI Liberal Arts Core where appropriate. Failed Courses A course that has been failed must be repeated in an on-campus class, a class taken in residence at an accredited institution, in order to earn credit for the course. A course that has been failed may not be repeated by correspondence, nor may credit be established by examination for a course which has been taken previously and failed. Scholarship 1. A student working toward the bachelor's degree with licensure to teach must achieve a cumulative grade index in all course work attempted, at this university and elsewhere, of at least 2.50 to be recommended for graduation. The student must also achieve a cumulative grade index of 2.50 on all coursework attempted at the University of Northern Iowa. 2. A student working toward the bachelor's degree (without licensure) must achieve a cumulative grade index in all coursework attempted, at this university and elsewhere, of at least 2.00 to be recommended for graduation. The student must also achieve a cumulative grade index of 2.00 on all coursework attempted at the University of Northern Iowa. Note: If a student has failed to be recommended for graduation because of deficiencies in scholarship, the deficiencies may be removed only by work taken in residence. Credit/No Credit Grading 1. Not more than 22 semester hours of ungraded course work in addition to courses authorized to be offered only for ungraded credit may be taken toward any bachelor's degree. 2. Ungraded coursework may not be applied to requirements for a major or minor except with the consent of the head of the department in which the course is offered. 3. The Credit/No Credit system may not be used with Credit by Examination, Extension, or Correspondence courses. Advanced Courses At least 10 semester hours of coursework in major courses numbered must be taken at this university Residence 1. Not more than 32 semester hours earned in Guided Independent Study, extension, or television courses may be used toward graduation. 2. At least 32 hours of credit, of which 20 hours must be earned in the junior and senior years. 3. At least 32 hours of credit earned in the junior and senior years in courses at this university. This total must include non-residence credit. Office of Admissions University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls, IA Phone: (800) admissions@uni.edu 5/5
