The motion to accept the financial report as presented was made by Dottie Mitchell seconded by Doug Steinke; the motion passed. The Financial Report will be filed for review. DIRECTORS REPORTS & DISCUSSIONS (see s from Directors) Communications Evelyn Fox s report said she performed the typical monthly duties related to the webpage/site, oversight for newsletters, and submitting the Sun Rays article. In addition, this month, she posted notification for voting for the 2015 vicepresident; monitored and changed forwarding for s to/from various compclub.org; Page 1 of 5
2 sent out reminders to the Volunteer Luncheon; created the routine to tally votes for the election of the 2015 vice-president. Evelyn said she would contact On-ramp and acquire the URL for the Computer Club. Cyber Center Chick Gladwin s report listed three new Epson projectors installed. He pointed out that using the pc s provided at the Podium or the Tank would provide the best results. Two universal remotes with off/on switches were ordered. Three copies of Quicken Deluxe 2015 for nine pcs in the classroom were ordered. One copy of Quicken Premier 2015 on the Tank was purchased for use by the Quicken SIG. Win-10 Technical Preview is available in the Lab on L-13. It is on a temporary vacation. Gael Miller will contact the CA about disposal of older projectors. Chick would see to it the LaserJet printer in the Lab is replaced. He will purchase a longer HDMI cable to replace the one pulled from the wall in the Annex. He announced there is a new Mac Mini in the Lab. There will be nine new Macs in the classroom (eight for students, one at the podium). He would like to order nine frames (a security tie-down), six adapters, a universal key for the frames (two come with each unit). His plan is to order all the named items for pick up on January 2, This will allow enough time for installation and testing for classroom use the last two weeks of January. Don Simpson so moved; John Bosch seconded; the motion passed. As requested by Computer Club members, Chick arranged for a recycle bin to be put in the Lab. He will when and where the recycle items will be collected. The Malware committee has made several attempts to contact Malwarebytes. So far they have not responded. CCleaner staff has been very cooperative. They will give coupons for a one time use for $8.00 each. Retail charge is usually $ $ James McCrain noted there were problems running back-up on the Admin server servicing the Computer Club. He suggested that Win 8-1 should be put on I-7 so there could be automatic back-up. Evelyn Fox so moved; Chick seconded; motion passed. Chick will begin work on the server. He said release time for Win-10 maybe mid April Membership Dottie Mitchell reported in her there were 20 new memberships processed in October. The Computer Club membership has reached 88.87% of the projected number of members for One processing report a week is now coming to her. It has not been difficult keeping up-to-date. Plans for membership in 2015 are to use the CA SABO system. This system will allow renewing members to pay their dues through the CA ticketing system. The CA intends to continue with the single processing report per week. From past history Dottie and her committee would be processing several hundred received from the CA each week, plus those new and renewing members received in the Lab. Dottie will enlist additional help Page 2 of 5
3 from those members that have helped in past years to keep up with the volume of entries. Programs Doug Steinke reviewed the programs that are already scheduled. He does not have a firm date for a program in April to be done by a friend of the Resnicks. SIGs Vacant Training Jan Miller s report showed Win 8.1 and iphone tied for a student count of 20 for each. Coming in with a tie for second place with 11 students each was Win-7 Level II and Facebook. While there were 121 students taking classes in October, November and December will have a total of 5.5 weeks for classes. No instructors have commented about the new projector in the classroom. Due to health problems, Tim Swaty will not be able to teach for the next few months. Jan talked to John Viers about teaching Photoshop. He has a long background teaching Photoshop. He is meeting with Marlene Sloan and her current PS instructors about working with them in the Photoshop group. Social Chairman Report Jan reported the Annual Meeting Lunch has been scheduled with Mopsie. The menu will be Smoked Brisket and Chicken with Green Beans Almandine, Red Potatoes, Garden Salad, Warm rolls & butter, Jumbo Brownies, Tea and Coffee. Tickets have been printed and currently on sale. So far the sales have been rather slow. There was a general discussion of how to publicize the Meeting Arlene Perkins will be the Social Chairman for the Computer Club in Webmaster Don Simpson is up-to-date with requested postings and calendar updates. He gave an extensive report on the progress of the new CA website. The latest Go Live date is February 12, He continues to contend with scant information about training, content and user format of the new CA website. The date to begin training for the webmasters of various SCTX Clubs may be on January 5 th, 2015; however no training schedule has been organized or published. If all goes as announced there will be about five weeks to learn a new set of tools, become competent on those tools, figure out the new navigation and retrofit all of the pages to be current. Don suggested to that a separate calendar tool be considered. He said the CA felt it was a good idea. Some of the SCTX Clubs have begun using a public domain tool called It costs between $25 and $30 per year. It has more functionality than the new calendar provided by the CA. The resulting calendar can be linked to our new and current websites. Don suggested the Computer Club purchase one Localendar ; explore it; train several people to use it; then get one for every current calendar. Evelyn Fox so moved, Chick Gladwin seconded, motion passed. The motion was amended to authorize the purchase of three Localendar programs. Old Business Page 3 of 5
4 2015 Elections Report On-line voting for the Vice-President/President Elect has begun. Both Doug Steinke as Chairman of the Nominating Committee and James McCrain as president of the SCTXCC continue to be insulted, harassed, defamed, and affronted by Rick Nash, the self-nominated candidate for Vice-President/President Elect. Mr. Nash has alleged the current SCTXCC election is rigged and he has unfairly been prohibited from addressing the membership. As were all running for a contested office, he was invited to give Doug Steinke a resume or statement of purpose to be posted on the weekly newsletter. He did not supply any statement saying it was no one s business. Mr. Nash was invited to speak to those present at the SCTXCC scheduled meeting in the Ball Room. Mr. Nash declined the opportunity saying too few members attended the meetings. Next, he was invited to attend the Executive Board meeting of November 6, He declined saying the election is unfair. He continues to send inappropriate s to James McCrain, addressing him as Pinocchio and referring to Volunteers for the Computer Club as clueless, non-knowledgeable. All Executive Board members are considered to be liars by Mr. Nash. Those representing the SCTXCC strive to respond to Mr. Nash with dignity and restraint. On-line Renewals Dottie Mitchell affirmed the online membership renewals that have come through the CA system are working well. New Business Election Results Formalizing the Declaration of New Officers Evelyn will give notice of the actual vote count for Vice-President/President Elect as that is the only contested election. December Board Meeting A discussion was held concerning the officers for All officers will be invited to the December 2014 Executive Board Meeting. They will be welcomed by the Board. Don Simpson will take individual photos to be projected on the large screen in the Ball Room when they are introduced to the members present. Business Meeting in January - As some people are not interested in eating, it was suggested that members could be admitted for no charge for the Official Meeting after the meal. Only those who purchased tickets will qualify for door prizes. This decision will be publicized in the Newsletter. Other Business Doug Steinke said Mose Blaine, a long time, faithful volunteer had moved out of Sun City. He recommended a thank you letter be sent to him. Linda Walke will write and send the letter from the SCTXCC. She asked Doug to let her know what volunteer work he did and for an address to send the letter. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A. M. Minutes reported by Linda L. Walke, Secretary Page 4 of 5
