Then use a form of the BE verb and the past participle of the main verb. Be a). Active = They built this university in the 90s. 90 b). Passive = This university was built in the 90s Use: Use the passive when you don t know who the subject is or when the object is more important than the subject. But remember you can only use the passive with transitive verbs. a). My wallet has been stolen. b). Approval is needed before preparation can begin. III. Tips for the TOEIC PART I TOEIC PART I Before you listen to the answer choices for each picture, look at the picture and brainstorm vocabulary. Think of the words for the objects shown in the picture. Think of the verbs for any actions people in the picture might be doing. If you still have some time, also predict what sentence you might hear for the picture. As soon as the voice begins, stop brainstorming and pay full attention to what you hear.
