3 Advancing midwifery Understanding the quest Thinking beyond today, into possibilities of tomorrow Why choose the AUT postgraduate programme? AUT has the only university midwifery department north of Waikato. We offer our degrees and qualifications on AUT's North Shore and South campuses, and at satellite centres in Northland and Taranaki. We maintain close links with Lead Maternity Carer Midwives (LMC), hospital midwives, managers and midwifery clients who offer advice and feedback. Expertise from our Centre for Midwifery and Women's Health Research informs continual improvement in our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. Who can study midwifery at postgraduate level? programmes in midwifery are open to all registered midwives. The midwifery papers within the AUT health programmes provide midwives with woman- and family-centered education that is applied and practice orientated. The programmes encourage midwives to critically analyse and develop midwifery practice and expertise. Our midwifery programmes draw on the University s teaching and research expertise in the midwifery, interdisciplinary health, education, and social policy disciplines. The majority of our papers are offered online so you can complete your study from wherever you live, and while you are working. Students, provided they meet the entry requirements, can enter postgraduate programmes at the postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or master's levels outlined below. Research interests and associations Centre for Midwifery and Women's Health Research The centre is the research arm of the School of Midwifery and is guided by an external advisory group. We are committed to building partnerships, knowledge and skills through education and research in order to improve the quality and provision of care for women and families. Interdisciplinary Trauma Research Unit The unit s staff and students undertake research that is aimed at gaining an understanding of the human experience of trauma 2
