Interaction with students. They light up the day with optimism. The ability to approach the leader of the organisation is fantastic and the fact that she chooses to engage with her staff and students when traveling by train or by walking across campus really makes me feel I am part of a team/ family. Freedom to try things and fail. History, commitment to local community. Good training Fewer bureaucratic barriers to any innovative activity. More collaborative approach. We have great resources, but the resources are not shared among members of staff. Less tolerance for mediocrity. Rewarding excellence across all areas of the university's activity, not just research. Senior managers to come down to the shop floor and see first hand the hurdles & obstructions we have to overcome in trying to provide students with a first class experience. My immediate colleagues with whom I work on a day to day basis.
