2 FRESHMAN YEAR Sign-up for the LCB-UGCareer Listserv Explore your interests and abilities through academic courses Utilize self-assessment tools to gain a better understanding of your interests, values and skills Provide up-to-date career information via the listserv Offer and guide students to assessment tools to help find the best fit for your major and future profession Join student organizations that will offer you leadership roles in the future; at least one related to your personal interests and another tailored toward your major or career interest Learn about and apply for the Cooperative Education and/or Academic Internship Programs offered through the Division of Professional Practice Provide lists of student organizations to join via the LCB Career Services website Direct students to the Division of Professional Practice and related co-op and academic internship materials Attend career fairs to gather information on potential careers and employers Familiarize yourself with services and resources available through Career Services Update privacy settings on personal social media profiles and determine your brand on professional social media sites Create a first draft of your resume, have it critiqued and make refinements Create a Recruit a Cat profile and make it active for employers to explore; check often for career Become familiar with your interview skills through Interview Stream Virtual Interview System Conduct career-related events to identify careers within your major Present social media strategies that will assist with maximizing your virtual brand presence Assist in building your elevator speech through examples and consultation Train students on how to use Recruit a Cat and Interview Stream Be attentive and provide honest feedback on communication skills Build your Elevator Speech Identify and comprehend the difference between professional and general communication Host Drop-In Hours see the most recent student newsletter for scheduled hours Page 2 of 5
