2 Archeological Services R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., provides a full range of identification, evaluation, and treatment services for prehistoric and historic archeology. These services include reconnaissance surveys to obtain preliminary data on the distribution and nature of potential historic properties within a project area; intensive archeological survey to locate prehistoric and historic cultural remains through systematic survey; archeological testing to evaluate the integrity and significance of prehistoric and historic cultural remains; and data recovery to excavate significant cultural remains that cannot be preserved in situ. R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., maintains full laboratory and conservation facilities for the efficient processing and detailed analysis of all items recovered and materials generated as a result of our work. Our laboratory facilities have been audited by the U.S. Army s Mandatory Center of Excellence (MCX), and meet the requirements promulgated in 36 CFR Part 79. Our archeological investigations comply fully with Federal standards and regulations, and with guidelines developed by respective State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO). We particularly are proud of our successful professional relationships with State and Federal review agencies. We also are experienced in supporting Federal clients in consultation with Federally recognized Indian tribes. In addition to our core archeological services, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., also offers specialized archeological services, such as construction monitoring, remote sensing, geomorphic and environmental reconstruction, and geophysical testing, including soil resistivity, proton magnetometer, soil induction, and soil phosphate analysis. Underwater Archeological Services R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., offers the full range of underwater archeological services including: Phase I remote sensing and visual survey; Phase II testing and evaluation; and Phase III underwater data recovery. We have experience in the location, delineation, and evaluation of inundated prehistoric and historic archeological sites and shipwrecks. Our Underwater Services Division has supported numerous Federal agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in fulfilling their requirements under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, and we have worked closely with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), the Minerals Management Service (MMS), and numerous State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) to evaluate of the potential effects of offshore construction on submerged cultural resources. We have assisted in the preparation of numerous Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), as both authors and third-party reviewers, and we have experience working with the Deepwater Port Act of 1974, as amended (DWPA). Our firm owns and operates a remote sensing array comprised of a magnetometer, a side scan sonar, a sub-bottom profiler and an echosounder, and we provide underwater cultural resources remote sensing data collection and analyses services, as well as third-party cultural resources analyses of existing remote sensing data sets. R. Christopher Goodwin and Associates, Inc., is an organizational member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) and complies with OSHA standards for scientific diving. Our diving archeologists are AAUS scientific divers trained in the use of scuba and
3 surface supplied air, first aid, CPR and oxygen administration and have worked in low visibility, strong currents, and deep water. In addition, nautical archeologists at R. Christopher Goodwin and Associates, Inc., can provide HABS/HAER historical watercraft documentation and National Register evaluation and nomination services, as well as the excavation, recordation, and evaluation of boats and ships discovered on terrestrial archeological sites. Architectural & Historical Services R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc., has extensive experience in the survey, evaluation, and treatment of historic built resources ranging from individual buildings, to engineering structures, to cemeteries, to districts and cultural landscapes. The qualifications of our staff of professional architectural historians, historians, and preservation specialists exceed those established by the Secretary of the Interior. We particularly are proud of our Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program that enables us to complete large, complex projects efficiently and cost-effectively within demanding schedules. Our firm has supported numerous Federal clients in fulfilling Section 106 and 110 requirements for built resources under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Our work routinely requires resource survey, documentation, and analysis applying the standards of various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) and the National Register of Historic Places. Archeologist I: Professional responsible for day-to-day conduct and/or supervision of archeological field crews, field data management, field logistics, and minor report preparation, under supervision of Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager Archeologist II: Professional responsible for the day-to-day conduct of archeological fieldwork, and the collection and documentation of field data, under supervision of an Archeologist I or Assistant Project Manager. Secretary: Provides administrative support for day-to-day project management, including maintenance of project files, correspondence, and travel logistics. Duties include report formatting and production in accordance with contract requirements.
