The education and training develop skills - Adults with reduced mental or physical capacities - Adults facing other social challenges. The college educates assistants within the field of eldercare based upon the belief that skills and knowledge rest on positive attitude and respect for the elderly. The college has developed extensive professional expertise in the field of care for the elderly within: - Gerontology and geriatric care - Rehabilitation - Dementia.
3 Approach People-centred At the education and training is people-centred. The college strives consistently to implement an appreciative approach believed to have the most significant effect at all levels, taking the point of departure namely the focus on the needs, resources and desires of the target groups, whether they are: - elderly, children, patients or others with special needs; - students; or - clients requesting tailor made courses. The programmes and training are based on the belief that skills and knowledge of the professionals rest on a positive attitude and respect for the elderly, children, patients or adults with special needs. The study programmes and training courses are developed and delivered in close dialogue with the clients, such as service providers and the labour market in general. The continuous education courses are tailor made according to the needs of the client. The education and training is planned around the abilities and learning patterns of the individual student, in order to create a personal space for learning and development of their competences. The Danish Model of Welfare The Danish Welfare Model is recognised for high professional standards, high ethics for professionals entering in other people s homes and a multidisciplinary organisation and management. The study programmes incorporate all the principle qualities of the Danish Welfare Model. Among others, this includes personal competences within behaviour and attitude, as well as professional competences, such as geriatrics, rehabilitation, dementia, psychology, management, education and health promotion. Theory and practice The college posses significant experience in flexible learning systems, emphasising the combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, attitudes and behaviour. During decades, the college has accumulated important experience in education for care provision through a complementary mix of theory and practice. Further, a broad selection of methods and approaches are applied in order to optimise the learning outcome of each student. The learning activities also integrate basic and specialist subjects to enhance student understanding of interdisciplinary relationships and cohesion between the areas.
4 International The is actively seeking other study programmes to exchange knowledge and experience for both students and teachers. The college wants to strengthen the profession by offering both students and teachers an outside look at own practices. The college is through partnerships participating in developing curricula and courses for eldercare, nursing, childcare and Special Needs. Besides the capacity development, the cooperation with other cultures also contributes to strengthen the college s own professional profile and education. Walk the talk Each year, the most talented students in the vocational area compete in the National Championships of Skills. At the Danish Welfare College we believe that excellence and kompetence thrive, if one dares. The strive for its students to be amongst the very best, as our students strive to do their very best. Therefore, we are proud to say that students from the in the last three championships have won two gold and one bronze medal. At the picture, last years winners Sofie and Stephanie are awarded the gold medal by the former minister of education, Christine Antorini. Additional information Over the last decade, the has increased its international engagements. The college is involved in the Nordic countries, in Europe and for instance in Ghana and China. The college carry out international exchange programmes in close partnerships with similar educational institutions. The programmes provides our students and teachers with a unique opportunity for experiencing international internships and gaining practical knowledge abroad. The students at the college in Denmark are between 16 and 55 years old and with many different cultural and personal backgrounds. This has been a unique possibility for the college to strengthen the cultural sensitive learning systems, relevant both in Denmark and abroad.
