If you offer sliding scale, what is the range of your scale? $ to $ **Contrary to what others may do, it is important that if you offer a sliding scale that it is fair and equitable across the board. There can be legal and ethical challenges that arise if developing prices for mental health services based on the client honor system solely. I suggest setting up a sliding scale based on income and that way you can offer the same prices to everyone. Also remember that you can package services in a different way to reduce cost, if therapeutically possible. For example, offering a shorter session or coming less frequently, which will reduce client cost. How would you feel if you paid your therapist $100/hour and found out that the cousin you referred was paying $60/hour, but you find that your cousin wasn t totally truthful to reduce their fee? 8. If I was asked this question and answered with, Oh, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor or I am a therapist will you know what that means? From those answers will you know that I help mental health professionals create successful programs and services to offer in their practice and avoid the pitfalls of business building, so that they can dream big and take actions to obtain those dreams? Will you also know that I help parents better understand their children and help people become freed from feelings of hopelessness, confusion, and stress? That is why you need a message that speaks to your target audience FIRST: Identify and summarize the problem(s) that your target audience faces. SECOND: List how you solve these problems. THIRD: Explain the results your client should achieve with your help. Examples for the question So what do you do? Well, you know how some parents have a hard time connecting with their children during their child s different stages of growth? Well, I help parents decode their child s behaviors and learn to speak their language so that both parent and child can reconnect. Well you know how stress in your family and marriage can translate into problems at work, in finances, and with other important relationships? Well, I counsel couples and families on how to work through these stressors effectively, creating more joy and positive interactions in their personal and professional lives.
