2 Future-proofing means incorporating into new or renovated homes, features that will improve the occupants quality of life now and ensure the home maintains and improves its value for the future. The eight Future-Proof principles/icons To make Future-Proof Building simple the initiative is split into eight principles, each represented by its own icon. Use these principles to help explain the benefits of Future-Proof Building branded products to your customer. Energy Efficiency Is about choosing products that will conserve the amount of energy used to run them. Product examples: Water heating; solar, heat pump and continuous flow water heating. Space heating: heat pump or gas heating system. Health & Safety Is about choosing products that make the best use of the space available to fit the customers lifestyle. Product examples: Space saving products such as trash compactors, stackable washer/dryer units and folding ironing centres. Life Cycle Costing Is about incorporating products that minimise the amount of noise pollution in the home. Product examples: Quieter appliances such as ISE-75 and quieter piping systems such as Aquatherm.

3 Quality Assurance Is about using quality materials, as well as having them correctly installed and constructed by professionals will ensure that the home lasts. Product examples: Suggest qualified tradesmen (such as a Plumbing World Shareholder), and products that are BIA/BRANZ approved. Resource Responsibility Is about using products that have a minimal impact on the planet when they re being produced and when they re being used. Product examples: Water saving tapware, rainwater harvesting systems. Security and Automation Is about incorporating products that increase your quality of life by streamlining chores, increasing security and adding to the entertainment value of the home. Product examples: Intelligent heating and cooling systems, electronic temperature controllers. Sound Control Is about incorporating products that minimise the amount of noise pollution in the home.
