15 Recommendations Cross-organizational alignment is a prerequisite for an enterprisewide configuration management strategy. Change and configuration are inexplicably linked; a successful CMDB will require a comprehensive change process. A configuration management database will have as many as seven or more data sources, and companies should expect to do manual integration for the next three to five years. While developing a CMDB strategy, customers need to keep in mind the role that business service views will have in their environment, and plan for it.
