1 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Childcare worker (Diploma) POSITION NUMBER: 2014 DIVISION/GROUP: PROGRAM AREA: REPORTS TO: Operations Community Services - Childcare Director Colleen Gale Children s Services GRADE: 6 HOURS OF WORK: 38 hrs per week (worked between 6.30am-6.00pm) LAST DATE OF REVIEW: January 09 Function Summary: The main objective of the Colleen Gale Children s Services is the provision of quality services to the enrolled families. These quality services are based upon the policies, programs and philosophies of the Colleen Gale Children s Services The Child Care Worker is responsible to the Director Colleen Gale Children s Services for coordination of activities within the Service s operation, the supervision of children and the programming for individual children s needs in accordance with the Service s policies and philosophies. It is a requirement of employment with Singleton Council that all staff undertake their work in a manner which will not harm themselves or others. Major and Essential Job Functions Program Development and Delivery Contribute to the development, implementation and dissemination of all policies, philosophies and programs of the Service s. Regularly discuss and record any information on the children s development and any observations with fellow staff and parents. Develop and implement special needs programs in conjunction with external support services, and the Director Colleen Gale Children s Service s /Early Childhood Teacher. Develop and implement, in conjunction with assisting staff, a daily program based upon the needs of all attending children.

2 Provision of Service To create a warm learning environment through positive interaction with children, parents and staff to nurture the full potential in all. Monitor the work environment to ensure hazards are minimised and assist in maintaining the Service in a clean and tidy manner. Communicate with children, staff and parents in accordance with the Service s Communication Policy. Provide professional support and resources for staff, children, parents and support agencies. Attend staff meetings to enable a positive team environment to be developed and maintained. People Supervision Provide leadership and direction to all staff in all facets of their work. Resolve staff problems, issues or grievances through line management. Other Functions and Responsibilities Help organise special events and excursions in conjunction with the room leader. Awareness of the principles of equity and diversity, occupational health and safety, environment, risk management, records management and quality assurance as they relate to this position. Practical experience in establishing and implementing education and developmental programs for young children. Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one. Demonstrated affinity with children. Excellent communication skills at all levels. Desirable Criteria Experience working in an Early Childhood setting. Experience working with children with additional needs. Knowledge of the Curriculum Framework. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. 4

Interacts with parents and the community 2 effectively and provides opportunities for parents to participate in the Services events. 6 enrolment form and recording the specific needs of the child and parents. Knowledge of and ability to implement the 3 emergent curriculum. Develops checklists and forms based on LDC 3 Quality Assurance system and DoCS regulations. Proficient in assisting parents with their accounts 3 including finding parents balance (use of child care software program) and use of EFTPOS facilities. Demonstrated ability to Cross Skill through 3 performing duties of other teams members. Ability to develop OH&S strategies for 3 continuous improvement to safety systems and documentation including work method statements and job safety analysis Knowledge of the Curriculum Framework 4 Ability to incorporate the principles of the 4 Curriculum Framework into the children s programs Demonstrated ability to Up Skill through 4 performing relief management/supervision duties during times of absence or when required Ability to perform in the position of Temporary 4 Authorised Supervisor through the Department of Community Services.
