There are 5 major sections 1. Findings related to each specific aims, research question and/or hypothesis 2. Relationship of current findings to previous findings 3. Effect of problems or obstacles on the results 4. Limitations 5. Conclusions
Be sure to: List Research Questions and/or Hypotheses as exactly written in your grant agreement It is not necessary to include an extensive literature review, details about the theoretical framework or model, or methods Focus on Findings Outcomes New knowledge generated from your study
Write sufficient information to thoroughly describe the research findings and accomplishments with respect to each specific aim, research question, and/or hypothesis of the study or project.

Complete summary data obtained for period covered by the grant Reliability and validity for all instruments used in the research and the population in which these psychometric properties were established Explain how each specific aim or research question/hypothesis was answered by your findings ** Organize this section by aim/question Any other significant findings that may or may not have been anticipated i.e. respiratory arrest first

Embed all tables and figures such that they appear near their mention in the text Number all tables and figures; clearly label all figures. Add a legend as well as a key to any abbreviations and symbols for both tables and figures
Figures and graphs constructed to stand alone with means and standard deviations Statistical tests of significance, if appropriate Relationship of results to specific aims Listed individually
A good researcher will want to critique his or her own study before others You should always put your findings into the context of the previous research that you found during your literature review Ask yourself Do your results agree or disagree with previous research?
Always ask: Do the results of the previous research help you to interpret your own findings? If your results are very different, why? Either you have uncovered something new or you may have made a major flaw with the design of the experiment
Identify the pitfalls as well as the more fruitful approaches to answer your research questions There are many categories of obstacles such as: Deployment Equipment, supplies, facilities or money Personnel Organization/administration Time factors
Describe characteristics of the design, methodology, or data that threaten internal validity of the study and reliability of measures For instance: 1) Findings from a study sample of 90% men may not be generalizable to women 2) Measuring at various time points are not possible due to removal of blood or tissue may be detrimental to the subject 3) Repeated equipment malfunctions may produce measurement errors
Summary of results with emphasis on: Importance and/or implications of completed research End with a conclusion that succinctly summarizes key results and the degree to which each specific aim was achieved Do not introduce new information in the conclusion and ensure that the conclusion is justified by the data Suggestions for future research
This section is critically important, 2 page limit Clearly detail how the results are significant to military nursing clinical practice, leadership, management, education and/or policy Summarize new knowledge and describe how the findings narrowed or closed a research gap Comment on the quality and generalizability of the new knowledge Based on your findings, include recommendations for future research
Critically important, limited to 2 pages The key is to describe the nature, scope, impact, and outcome of the enacted/actual changes in military nursing clinical practice, leadership, management, education, and/or policy Objective Quantifiable Measureable
Provide all cited references in a consistent style Authors Article title Journal, book title Volume number Page numbers Year of publication PMC reference number for those that fall under the NIH Public Access Policy May provide URLs for those that are publicly available in a free, online format
Document all dissemination activities Delete/add rows to the appropriate categories as needed Delete unused categories and/or rows Publications (using a consistent reference style, provide complete citation for papers already published in print or electronic journals)
Remember that publications/abstracts must be approved by a military public affairs office or USUHS prior to submission.
Type of Dissemination Citation Date and Source of Approval for Public Release Publications (using a consistent reference style, provide complete citation for papers already published in print or electronic journals) Publications in Press (if known, provide estimated date paper will be published) Published Abstracts Podium Presentations Poster Presentations Media Reports Other

Also include in your report Seminars Invited lectures Workshops, etc. Changes in Practice resulting from findings of the study Changes in Policy resulting from findings of study

Reportable Outcome Detailed Description Applied for Patent Issued a Patent Developed a cell line Developed a tissue or serum repository Developed a data registry
This section contains 7 tables Select and complete the ONE TABLE that bests aligns with your study or project Delete the remaining tables For multi-site studies, include a table for each site For studies with more complex recruitment and retention data, you may add a recruitment and retention figure
Table 1-3: Human subjects study Number of subjects projected in grant application Number of subjects available Number of subjects screened/ineligible/refused Number of human subjects consented/withdrew/completed study with complete data/with incomplete data
Table 4: Medical or data registry study Number of medical or data registry records available Number of medical or data registry records screened/ineligible Number of subjects with complete data/with incomplete data
Table 5-7: Animals study Number of animals projected in grant application Number of animals purchased Number of model development animals Number of research animals with complete data/with incomplete data
Complete the table if demographic characteristics data were collected Report mean SD for age and number of subjects plus percentage for other characteristics For animal studies, delete this table
Attach and sign the official final budget from your application organization Your signature indicates that you carefully reviewed the official final budget and agree Briefly describe the rationale for and outcomes of reallocating funds and obtaining additional funds, if applicable Explanation of remaining funds, if applicable
TSNRP conducts independent, scientific review of the study goals, objectives and reported achievements TSNRP proofreads the report for format and grammar/spelling errors You may be contacted if further clarification, information and/or proofing changes are needed If the reviewers make recommendations for amendments, written notification will be sent and 30 days will be allowed to make the changes Failure to respond in the designated time will result in an adverse report to the respective specialty leader and Corps Chief
If no further information is required, TSNRP begins the following steps to complete the final report process: 1. A copy of the edited report is returned to the PI for proofing revisions 2. Revised report and abstract is reviewed for completeness upon receipt 3. Final Report sent to NTIS; link to NTIS site placed on TSNRP website 4. Abstract sent to CINAHL and TSNRP website ** Process takes 3-9 months after initial receipt of report
TSNRP strongly supports dissemination of your findings through journal articles, presentations, etc. Submit electronic copies, along with the PAO clearance documents via your grantee organization to
Make the report different than your journal article The final report should be a summary of more than one article Don t use the same graphics or tables???? Check with TSNRP if you have questions about content or copyright
According to TSNRP's Grant Terms and Conditions, release of study information outside TSNRP requires: Sponsorship statement to be included in all dissemination Clearance by the Department of Defense Public Affairs Office
The following sponsorship statement must be included in all abstracts, manuscripts, press releases, presentations, etc. This project (or research) is (or was) sponsored by the TriService Nursing Research Program, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; however, the information or content and conclusions do not necessarily represent the official position or policy of, nor should any official endorsement be inferred by, the TriService Nursing Research Program, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Department of Defense, or the U.S. Government.
You MUST send a copy of the Public Affairs Office clearance document with your publication to TSNRP Submit a copy of each manuscript, abstract, and press release submitted for publication or presentation to TSNRP
If you do not have access to a DoD Public Affairs office TSNRP will facilitate the process of obtaining clearance on your behalf Prior to dissemination, submit a copy of the manuscript, press release, presentation, etc., TSNRP will forward the materials to the Uniformed Services University Office of University Affairs for approval Allow 3-4 weeks to process requests
Self-plagiarism is the reuse of significant, identical, or nearly identical portions of one s own work without acknowledging that one is doing so or without citing the original work Occasionally, the derived paper is simply a retitled and reformatted version of the original one, but more frequently it is assembled from bits and pieces of previous work Authors should not violate copyright where applicable
Self-plagiarism is a problem when an author reuses portions of his or her own published and copyrighted work in subsequent publications, but without attributing the previous publication Identifying self-plagiarism is often difficult because of legal issues regarding FAIR USE Some universities and editorial boards choose to not regulate it at all; those consider the term selfplagiarism OXYMORONIC since a person cannot be accused of stealing from themself
For authors wishing to avoid potential issues when authoring new papers, the authors are strongly encouraged to follow these "best practices Provide full disclosure - mention in the introduction that the new or derivative work incorporates texts previously published Ensure there is no violation of copyright Cite the old articles in the references section of the new manuscript
TSNRP believes that self-plagiarism is detrimental to scientific progress and bad for our academic community Flooding conferences and journals with near-identical papers makes searching for information relevant to a particular topic harder than it has to be and rewards those authors who are able to break down their results into overlapping least-publishable-units over those who publish each result only once Finally, whenever a self-plagiarized paper is allowed to be published, another, more deserving paper is not
The SPlaT tool can function in three modes: 1. In web spider mode: SPlat crawls through websites reachable from the top fifty Computer Science departments or any other specified start site downloading research papers to search for instances of self-plagiarism by Computer Science academics SPlaT (for Self-Plagiarism Tool;
2. In reviewer's workbench mode: SPlaT compares a paper under review to a record of the author's previously published articles extracted from their website 3. In author mode: SPlaT allows authors weary of committing textual self-plagiarism by cryptomnesia (reusing ones own previously published text while unaware of its existence) to check a new paper against previous publications

1. Organize the report using subheads and bullet points 2. Use charts and graphs to visualize findings and results 3. Include examples of innovative results 4. Strive for brevity 5. Meet your deadline 6. Say thank you
