The joint solution by SAP and REALTECH opens up the possibility to use a single application to monitor the entire application landscape along with any infrastructure components required to run it and the service processes of SAP Solution Manager. This transforms SAP Solution Manager into a single platform for seamlessly monitoring all relevant processes from the IT processes that support the business to the actual business processes themselves. At the core of the application is the configuration management database (CMDB), a central database that automatically discovers all infrastructure components, maps their configurations and relationships, and maintains and logs detailed performance data. The CMDB data is automatically made available to SAP Solution Manager's higher level processes such as incident, change, or project management. This is how SAP ITIM closes the gap to the IT infrastructure and helps companies seamlessly map their business processes.

The device is procured and created as a piece of equipment in the ERP system. Once the device is present in the infrastructure, it is automatically discovered by SAP ITIM, and automatically assigned to the existing equipment by means of a Ibase synchronization. This puts the device into a managed lifecycle and makes it available to all operational processes as a configuration item.
