4 Overview IPEDS Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System 11 survey components make up the system Over 7,400 institutions report their data each collection year A collection runs from August of one year through April of the next year The 11 survey components are administered in three groups: Fall collection (6 weeks) Winter collection (9 weeks) Spring collection (17 weeks) Data are made public through two outlets College Navigator college search tool IPEDS Data Center data for researchers and analysts

8 Compliant Data Reporting The completion of all IPEDS surveys is mandatory for institutions that participate in or are applicants for participation in any federal student financial aid program (such as Pell grants and federal student loans) authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (20 USC 1094, Section 487(a)(17) and 34 CFR (b)(19)).

9 Reporting Noncompliance The regulations permit a fine of up to $35,000 for each violation of any provision of Title IV, or any regulation or agreement implementing that Title Noncompliance includes both timely and accurate reporting IPEDS gets a 99.8% annual response rate, on average
