This may allow for more effective patient treatment, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological. The use of more specifically targeted treatment should result in improved outcomes. In previous studies, Dr. Maloney has examined the relationship between temporomandibular disorder and tension-type headache. He has proposed a model through which the relationships among several factors present in tension-type headache patients may be examined.

12 Dr. Maloney is also examining the etiology of tinnitus and the presence of a relationship between TMD and some forms of tinnitus. Dr. Maloney has also lectured on atypical odontalgia and the relationship between neuropathic and inflammatory mechanisms of pain in the head, face and neck. Community Interests Dr. Maloney is also interested in serving his professional organization. He has been active in the local and the state dental societies. He has served on the legislative committee, the auxiliary relations committee and the executive committee of the Worcester District Dental Society, and the Council on Dental Practice of the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Maloney is actively searching for other opportunities to serve his professional society and the pain management community.
