Strategic Macro Allocation (SMA) goes beyond the simple stock-bond-cash asset classes and incorporates Investment Styles, including Alternative Investments. 9 INVESTMENT DUE DILIGENCE SEIA s due diligence process takes into account several quantitative metrics and drills into multiple qualitative aspects of an investment before selecting it as a potential candidate for your portfolio. MUTUAL FUNDS/ EXCHANGE TRADED FUNDS Past performance, relative to other investments having the same investment objective. Consideration shall be given to both performance rankings over various time frames and consistency of performance. Costs relative to other funds with like objectives and investment styles. Length of time the funds have been in existence and been under the direction of the current manager(s); and whether or not there have been material changes in the manager's organization and personnel. The likelihood of future investment success, relative to other opportunities and growth managers that specialize in Large/Mid/Small Cap as well as International. Does the managing company foster a thoughtful, repeatable investment process? Do talented managers spend their careers at this fund firm? INDIVIDUAL SECURITIES The current economic cycle. The historical volatility and downside risk of each proposed investment. Are the company s fundamentals improving? Does the company have a track record of exceeding forecasts? Does the price have potential to grow? Does the company have a high ROI? How is the stock valued compared to its peers? What level of net assets, operating income, and liquidity does the company have? Are the analyst forecasts improving? Is there a decreasing short interest? How is the price performing relative to the overall market? What risks does the company face? 7
