GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES For MBA PARTICIPANTS Admission Year For updates, please refer to the Current Student Intranet of: Nanyang MBA website:

Policies and issues having general implications for the MBA Programme are decided by the Board of Graduate Studies of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Implementation of these policies at the Nanyang Business School is carried out by the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. Programme Requirements 1 The programme leading to the degree of MBA comprises: (a) nine (9) core courses; (b) one (1) leadership module (B6029 Leading People Globally) (c) four (4) track electives/general electives; (d) one (1) business study mission (local or overseas); and (e) one (1) strategy project (B6030 Strategy Projects at Nanyang). 2 For the tracks, participants must offer four electives within their chosen track. For General MBA, the electives can be courses from either the Banking and Finance track, Strategy and Innovation track or from the list of general electives. 3 The elective courses are typically offered only once a year. Hence, participants should offer the courses under their track as soon as these courses are offered. Participants are responsible for carefully planning their courses in order to qualify for their desired track and to complete the programme in the time period allowed. Period of Study 4 Participants are given three (3) trimesters for full-time and five (5) trimesters for parttime, to complete their programme. If participants do not complete their coursework within the stipulated period of study, they will be billed S$4,000 for each full course taken after that period. Participants who opt to embark on an optional summer programme or approved internship after completion of all the required courses in the programme will not be liable for additional tuition fee. 5 The maximum periods of candidature for full-time and part-time are 2 years and 5 years respectively. Periods of leave of absence are counted in the determination of maximum period of candidature. There are three trimesters in each academic year. Any requests for extension of the period of candidature must be submitted in writing to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies). A participant may request for leave of absence from the programme with valid supporting reasons to be approved by the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies). The leave of absence must not exceed two years.

Transfer between Programmes 6 Transfer from The Nanyang MBA programme to the Nanyang-Waseda (WU) Double MBA (DM) programme (and vice versa) is not allowed. If a participant wishes to switch to the Nanyang-WU DM programme, he/she must withdraw from the Nanyang MBA programme and re-apply for the DM programme. Such an application will be treated as a new application and be subject to the same admission processes as other applications and admission is not guaranteed. Any tuition fees that have been paid to the Nanyang MBA will not be refunded nor credited to the fees of the DM programme. Pre-requisites 7 Participants should take note of any pre-requisites of courses that they intend to offer and endeavour to complete them as soon as possible. Waiver & Substitution of Courses (Application form is available at: 8 Participants who possess the necessary academic qualifications may be granted up to maximum of 2 waivers of core courses provided that they substitute each course waived with an approved course. The granting of waivers and the substituted courses must be approved by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies). 9 Application for waiver(s) must be made on the prescribed forms obtainable from the MBA website and should be submitted early in the programme. All applications must be submitted to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) at least 4 weeks before the start of the trimester. Late submissions will be held back until the following trimester. 10 Application for waiver(s) is evaluated on a case by case basis. In general, waiver for a course is granted if the participant has taken course(s) equivalent in content and rigour to the MBA course to be waived and has obtained good grades for the course(s); the course(s) were taken less than 5 years ago; and the university or institution from which the courses/qualification were obtained is of acceptable repute. Only one similar course taken at bachelor s level is not sufficient to grant a waiver. Experience in that knowledge domain is also considered, in addition to equivalent coursework taken at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Transfer of Credits 11 Subject to the prior approval of the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), participants may offer up to a maximum of five courses at an approved graduate programme. Credits earned by the participant in respect of such courses taken at the approved programme will then be transferred to NTU and will appear in the participant s academic transcript at NTU. The participant will then be deemed to have offered the courses for which the transfer of credits were granted. 12 Applications for transfer of credits must be made in writing and they will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Ample time must be given for the approval process. 13 The MBA Programme has student exchange collaborations with partner universities worldwide. Please refer to the MBA website for information on the International Student Exchange Programme. Change of Track or Status 14 A participant may apply to change his/her track or change to/from a General MBA. Notwithstanding his/her change of specialisation, the minimum and maximum periods of candidature set out in paragraph 4 above will continue to apply. 15 A participant may also, upon fulfillment of satisfactory requirements, apply to transfer from full-time to part-time status or vice versa. 16 All applications for change of track or status must be made in writing to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), with supporting reason(s). Course Registration and Attendance 17 For course registration purpose, all participants will be grouped into three separate groups Full-Time Group A, FT(A), Full-Time Group B FT(B) and Part-Time (PT). Each group is required to adhere to the fixed schedule provided. The MBA Office will pre-register participants for all compulsory courses i.e. the 9 core courses, B6029 Leading People Globally and B6030 Strategy Projects at Nanyang. Registration for elective courses is done online at the MBA website on a first-come-firstserve basis. Once a class is full, the computer system will automatically close registration for that class. If your registration is placed on waitlist, we will notify you of the outcome within 5 working days and priority will be given to those who are in their last trimester and require the course to fulfill their programme/track requirement.

18 Attendance in class is compulsory. Participants who do not fulfill at least 75 percent of attendance at classes can be barred from taking the examinations (i.e. for examinable courses) and a fail (F) grade will be given for the course. 19 A participant who has to be absent from classes for valid reasons (e.g. reservist training, official overseas trips) should seek approval from their instructors in advance. 20 Participants are allowed to offer up to a maximum of three (3) full elective courses available from the Nanyang MBA Programme, or other cross-listed programmes. Thereafter, if they wish to take additional courses, it will be subject to an additional fee of S$4,000 per full course Add/Drop Process During the Trimester 21 During the add/drop period of course registration which ends before 9 am on Monday of week 2 of the trimester, participants can add/drop course(s) through the course registration system. They can drop a course they have previously registered for and add a new course, provided the class is not full. In view of the latter, it is important for participants to register for class early and not to assume that they can do so during the add/drop period. 22 All participants are to ensure that their registration is accurate. Any discrepancy must be reported, with documentary proof, to the MBA Office by the end of the second week of the trimester. Please be reminded that no add/drop changes are allowed after the add/drop period. Under the University s Regulation, you are required to take the examination(s) for the course(s) registered against your name. If you do not do so, you will be deemed to have failed the course(s). On the other hand, if you have not previously registered for the course(s) during the course selection period, you will not be allowed to sit for the examination(s) of this (these) course(s) even if you have attended classes regularly. In very exceptional cases, if a participant is allowed to withdraw from a registered course after the first week of the trimester, a W (withdrawn) grade will be given against the course affected in his/her transcript. Application to withdraw from a registered course after the first week of the trimester must be submitted in writing to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies). Documentary evidence/support must be submitted with the application. Examinations 23 A participant who has not withdrawn from a registered course must sit for the examination in that course. He/she will be deemed to have failed the examination for that course, if he/she does not show up for the examination.

24 A participant who is permitted to be re-examined in a failed course must register for the course and follow the course of study in the course before being re-examined. 25 If a participant fails a functional or an elective course, he/she may, with the approval of the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), offer an alternative course which, for this purpose, will be deemed a course for re-examination. 26 No participant may be re-examined in more than four courses throughout their entire course of study. However, for participants who have passed in at least half of the required coursework courses, the Board of Examiners may recommend that they be permitted to repeat the failed course(s) any number of times or to offer alternative courses with the approval of the Dean, but this should be done within their maximum candidature period. In addition, transfer of credits granted would not be considered as courses passed in determining the number of courses passed by the participant. 27 A participant who is prevented by illness from taking or completing an examination may be permitted by the Board of Graduate Studies to take the examination again provided that the illness is reported to the Graduate Studies Office with a medical report submitted within 48 hours of the participant s absence from the examination. In such a case, the participant may be required, at the discretion of the Board of Graduate Studies, to repeat the course before sitting for the examination again. 28 Participants must achieve and maintain an acceptable level of proficiency throughout the programme (i.e. minimum TGPA of 2.50 for each trimester of study). 29 Participants should bear in mind that they are personally responsible for planning their course of study and selection of courses in each trimester within the constraints set by the Guidelines and Procedures. Academic Integrity 30 Good academic work depends on honesty and ethical behaviour. The quality of your work as a participant relies on adhering to the principles of academic integrity and to the NTU Honour Code, a set of values shared by the whole university community. Truth, Trust and Justice are at the core of NTU s shared values. As a participant, it is important that you recognize your responsibilities in understanding and applying the principles of academic integrity in all the work you do at NTU. Not knowing what is involved in maintaining academic integrity does not excuse academic dishonesty. You need to actively equip yourself with strategies to avoid all forms of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, academic fraud, collusion and cheating. If you are uncertain of the definitions of any of these terms, you should go to the academic integrity website for more information. Consult your instructor(s) if you need any clarification about the requirements of academic integrity in the course. - END -
