4 78th Annual Meeting and Luncheon Saturday, June 29, Noon The Seventy-Eighth annual meeting of the Howard University Employees Federal Credit Union was held at Pier Seven/Channel Inn Restaurant located in Southwest Washington, D.C. Board President Janet Jackson greeted members and guests and introduced the Board and Staff members. A buffet lunch was served at 1 p.m. Following lunch, Board President Jackson gave the State of the Credit Union message. The Credit Union has had a challenging year, but remains a safe place for members to meet their financial needs. In her message, Ms. Jackson stated why it was necessary to cut back on expenses for this meeting. Members leave the university and hospital and forget or ignore their debt with us thereby creating charge-off and collection issues. This type of behavior affects all members and the overall health of our Credit Union. We do, however, look forward to the coming year as an opportunity to enhance member services and to meet the financial needs of our members in a safe and professional manner. The following door prizes were presented to non-members, based on names picked randomly: Jeff Alexander Paul Cleveland Clayton Mercer Earl Stroud Rosemary Wyatt Each person won $10 (ten) dollars. Members won the following prizes: Claudette Frazer $10.00 Lila Stroud $10.00 Annie Coleman $25.00 Eleanor Henry $50.00 Aleta Grandison $ The prize money was posted to each member s share account. The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m. Submitted by: Sharon M. Lytle-Middleton Sharon M. Lytle-Middleton Board Treasurer and Acting Secretary Janet H. Jackson Janet H. Jackson Board President 2 Building a better today for a brighter tomorrow.
5 Address of the President Welcome members, staff and friends. It is a great honor to be your President and to serve you. I want to thank my fellow board members and committee members who have faithfully served you this past year. A special thank you goes out to the staff of the Credit Union; Michael, Tammy, Wan, and Terrell. Without you, the successes of 2013 would not have been possible. While adding more new services in 2013, we continued to push the boundaries of what our Credit Union is capable of. But there is still so much more for us to accomplish. HUEFCU is a member-owned financial cooperative that means we want to hear from you please come in and talk to our staff about our services and how we can better serve you. As we continue to grow, we are asking our members to get more involved with the Credit Union. Specifically, we are seeking members who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors and our committees. If you are looking to do some good and serve your fellow members, take the time to fill out an application. Directors volunteer approximately two hours a month to attend a board meeting. Service will reward you with the satisfaction of knowing that your unique skills can be used to help the Credit Union thrive and prosper. We have a handout that lists qualifications for board members. Please take a look and let us hear from you soon. The Credit Union is working closely with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to ensure that we continue to improve our services and profitability going forward. Based on the current economic environment, which is improving, and assistance we are receiving from the NCUA s Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, we anticipate that the coming year will be filled with even more opportunities. We can t wait to do it with you! Thank you for coming today and thank you for your continued support. Let s roll up our sleeves and get to work! Janet H. Jackson Janet H. Jackson President June 21, 2014 Building a better today for a brighter tomorrow. 3
6 From The Treasurer While economic challenges still remain in our marketplace today, thanks to the participation of our members, our Credit Union has once again delivered a sound, positive financial performance in Our net capital remains strong at 22.4% for the year ending This is largely due to our investment activities and sound management of operating cost. And, our investments have increased approximately to $4,426,000 during the year. The board of Directors and the management team continue to commit our expertise and our obligation to the safety and soundness of the decisions made regarding the financial direction of the Credit Union and we will work tirelessly to ensure that every member receives the most of their relationship with the Howard University Employees Federal Credit Union. It is a goal that we embrace. Respectfully submitted, Sharon M. Lytle-Middleton Sharon M. Lytle-Middleton Board Treasurer and Acting Secretary 4 Building a better today for a brighter tomorrow.

Our Committee has undergone additional training for improved service to our Credit Union. Presently, plans are being implemented to enhance member services.
