4 Explain the three different backup methodic! ATTENTION! Any inserted Cartridge which was not used in the internal cube RDX drive before will be formatted to ext3 format automatically. All data on the cartridge will be deleted. 1. Backup to internal cube RDX drive with internal backup Manager a. Use the internal RDX as a simple backup drive, to copy by TAR command cube shares b. Can be managed by plan. 2. Backup to internal cube disk share or remote location with internal backup Manager a. Gives you the possibility to use shares, on cube or external USB disk, as a backup folder. 3. Backup to RDX share <RDX_Recorder> a. That s a way to use the internal RDX drive as a share for a 3 rd party product like Backup Exec. b. 5 Backup with internal RDX backup manager Only the account admin can backup NAS data to internal RDX Media NOTE: The Data Backup function is not available in the iscsi target Volume. Only share folders (created under non-iscsi Volume) can be included in the backup source. iscsi Volume cannot be selected as backup source. To use RDX Backup functionality please enables it first at the System/Information site: A warning message will appear : Select Yes to proceed. With first initialization cube need a path where the backup log files can be stored Please select one volume path. If you want to reuse media previously formatted for backup to share please format this media manually with RDX manager. Backup Job Window Backup with internal RDX backup manager 5

6 Backup Job Window Select <Data Backup> to see the RDX Backup Manager Information tab. 7 Make a new plan Window 2.1 Name for this new backup plan 2.2 Time selection for this backup plan Select to enable scheduler 2.4 Select to run this backup for replay this backup regular 2.5 Select to eject media from Cube RDX after backup completed (need to insert new media if repeated) 2.6 Delete media before backup starts 2.7 Opens window to select files for backup 2.2. (see pic.3) 2.8 Save these settings as backup plan 2.9 Go back to Information page Start Backup immediately 2.4. pic pic Double click on share; folder to open Top, Mark share, folder or file and click add will select this data for backup 1.2. 8 Manage Window View <Manage> window: here you can start backup immediately or once created plans can be modified similar to <Make a new plan>,see pic. 2 window and for already finished backups created with this plan <Log> tab is visible. pic Select to see the logs from backups created with this backup plan (see pic. 5) Log view in Manage window shows all finished backup jobs created with this plan. 9 Manage Device Tab Window View <Device> tab shows media related information like media label, size and saved backup jobs on media. pic Opens RDX backup manager Information page 6.2 Shows RDX media status and size 6.3 Saved backup time: year, month, day, time 6.4 Saved backup plan name 6.5 Saved backup result: success or failed 6.6 Eject media if not in use 6.7 Mount or format/label media 6.8 Refresh page to get current information from inserted media 6.9 Shows media format and label 6.10 Opens settings window to restore files from this backup (see next picture) All inserted media will be mounted automatically before internal backup job starts and umounted after backup job finish. 11 Preparing Media for backup After inserting RDX Media to internal RDX drive RDX status will show <not mounted>: pic. 8 System checks all 30 sec the RDX drive for media availability All inserted media will be mounted automatically before internal backup job starts and umounted after backup job finish. To start a backup job manually, <backup now> please mount media before. Mount or format/label media (see pic. 8) Select <RDX mount> button to mount this media manually. Select Format disk and type media label to prepare media for backup. pic. 9 pic. 10 A warning message will be displayed.(see pic. 10) Select Yes to proceed. All data on this media will be deleted. 12 During format media this message will be displayed : Please wait until format finished! After format media will finish then click ok and media is <ready> for backup: <Auto-mount> option will automatically mount all inserted ext3 formatted media or format all other formats to ext3, label media with unique name and mount for using with RDX backup manager. If you want to reuse media formatted previously without enabled RDX backup manager, please (if already mounted umount this media on Storage/Share page) format this media manually with <RDX mount >option 12 Backup with internal RDX backup manager Preparing Media for backup

13 How to create a backup plan. Select <Make a new plan> and type job name : For data selection click on <Select files> and select a share, folder or single file. A double click on file or folder share will select data to backup and show it in the list on right window To save your selection click <ok>. If you don t want to schedule your backup plan let Enable schedule field unchecked and click <ok> How to create a backup plan. Backup with internal RDX backup manager 13

14 Your backup plan is saved and ready to backup; you can start it manually if you select <Manage> on backup definition and then <Backup now> A warning message will appear: select <Yes>if you really want to start with this backup. 15 After job is completed a message will appear: Information tab will show this plan with backup status success : This plan can be startet manually in the same way again. If schedule is enabled then the plan will start at defined clock time. To run a job regularly at defined time and days check <Repeat> in Manage plan too. To overwrite RDX media before backup plan starts check <Delete data in media before backup starts. If you check <Delete data in media before backup starts> Be sure you insert right media before plan starts. All old data on media will be deleted! Cancel Running Backup Job During backup or restore jobs are running one additional button to cancel a running job will be visible. 16 Delete a backup plan Select one plan from the list (click on the plan you want to delete) Plan will be show highlighted: Then click on <Remove a plan>: Click on <Yes> to agree! Deleted plan will disappear from the plan list 16 Backup with internal RDX backup manager Delete a backup plan

17 Backup plan exemples. A backup plan that will run regularly every Friday; RDX Media will be automatically ejected after job was done. New media for each backup is necessary! 18 Backup definition to only one media, once in the week with deleting previously saved data: Backup plan that will run only on three days to one media: 18 / Backup to internal disk or remote location Delete a backup plan

19 Backup to internal disk or remote location This backup option offers admin user the possibility to backup and restore whole shares to remote destination or to local disk or synchronize share folders with remote destination. NOTE: The Data Backup function is not available in the iscsi target Volume. Only share folders (created under non-iscsi Volume) can be included in the backup source. iscsi Volume cannot be selected as backup source. 20 Create Backup Plan How to Create a Backup Plan: 1. Click the Create button. The screen below will be shown. 2. Configure the necessary options. 20 / Backup to internal disk or remote location Create Backup Plan

21 Create Backup Options Name Type Backup Method Select Shares to backup Used this option to enter the backup name Select the type of backup source; for example: Share Select the backup method that will be used, such as Tar or Rsync Select from the list the share folders that will be backed up NOTE: Duplicate backup name is not allowed. Tar Options Destination Select the destination option for the backup. Options can be: Local Disk or Remote. Local Disk is an un-used disk drive. Remote is a remote CIFS/Samba share or NFS file system. Local Disk: Remote: NOTE: When a local disk is selected as backup destination, the disk status in Storage/Share RAID screen will be shown as BACKUP. Tar Options Protocol Select the type of protocol to be used for backup. Options are: Samba and NFS Create Backup Plan / Backup to internal disk or remote location 21

22 NOTE: For NFS, it will be assumed that the root account will be used. Please verify that root account can access the remote NFS file system. Tar Options Path Type the path for the remote destination Format for Samba Example Format for NFS Example //remote-ip/remote-share // /backupfolder remote-ip:/path-to-remote-nfs-file-system /mnt/actiNAS/volume/share Tar Options Account Password Type the account name with access to the remote share Type the password for the account with access to the remote share Rsync Options (Client Options) IP Type here the IP address of the remote Rsync server Remote Path Type here the share name on the remote Rsync server Account Type here the account name that will be required by the Rsync server for authentication Password Type here the password of the account Mode More Options Select the mode of file transfer, whether to upload to Rsync server or to download from Rsync server Specify here the Rsync options to be used. 23 Save Cancel Use this button to apply the changes made Use this button to undo or clear any changes made 3. Click the Save button. The backup plan will be created and shown in the Backup List. Backup List Options Name Select Name Status Log Shows the list of backup plans. When a backup plan is selected, information about the backup plan will be displayed, such as name of backup plan, type/method of backup, backup items, schedule (Enabled or Undefined), and completed backups. Use this option to select a completed backup then delete or restore the backup. Show the backup name Shows the status of the particular backup. Status can be: Incomplete or Complete. Use this option to view the detailed information about the completed backup. Click the button. 24 Immediate Backup Steps to start created backup immediately: 1. Select the particular backup plan from the Backup List. Click the Backup button. 2. A message will be displayed. 25 Delete Backup Plan Steps to Delete a Backup Plan: 1. Select the particular backup plan from the Backup List. 2. Click the Edit button. 3. Click the Delete button. 4. A warning message will be displayed. Select Yes to delete the backup plan. Edit Backup Plan Steps to Edit a Backup Plan: 1. Select the particular backup plan from the Backup List. 2. Click the Edit button. 3. Change the necessary options. Click Save when done. NOTE: A backup plan cannot be modified if a backup log exists. 26 Delete a Backup Log Steps to Delete a Backup Log: 1. Select (check) the backup log to be deleted from the log List. 2. Click the Delete button. A warning message will be displayed. 3. The backup will be deleted from backup destination and removed from log list. Restore a Backup Steps to Restore a Backup: 1. Select (check) the particular backup from the log List. 2. Click the Confirm button. A warning message will be displayed. Select Yes to restore backup. 3. 27 Backup to Local Disk (or EXTERNAL USB/eSATA DISK) Here is an example of how to backup to local disk. 1. Create a Backup Plan by using the Create button while in Backup List tab of Data Backup function. 2. Setup the Backup Plan. Enter the Backup Name and select the shares to backup. Leave the Type and Backup Method as is. In the Destination option, select Local Disk. The Disk option will display the available (free or un-used) local disk. Select the disk you want as destination for backup, if more than one free diskare available. Click Save when done. 3. To perform immediate backup, click Backup button. A warning message will be displayed. To proceed and confirm formatting the disk, select Yes. NOTE: After the local disk is formatted, the succeeding backup processes will no longer require formatting the disk. 28 4. Another warning message will be displayed. Select Yes to continue. 5. The backup process will be started. When backup is completed, a message will be displayed. Click OK. 6. 29 Schedule A backup plan can be run based on schedule. Select the Schedule tab. This will show a graphical view of the scheduled backup tasks. Each row shows the day of the week. Each column shows the time in every 30 minutes interval. Schedule Options Now Selected New Use this option to display available backup tasks on the current time Use this button to edit a scheduled backup task. Select first the scheduled backup task then click this button. Used this button to create a new scheduled backup task NOTE: It is not allowed to have duplicated or overlapping backup time. Only one backup process can be running at a time. A scheduled backup is set to run within 30 minutes time frame. Scheduling another backup within a scheduled time is not allowed. 30 Setup Scheduled Backup Task Steps to Setup Scheduled Backup: 1. Select the Schedule tab then click the New button. 2. Edit the options in Schedule Setting. Schedule Setting Options Backup List Time Day OK Cancel Select the backup plan from the list Set the hour and minutes when the backup will be run Select the day or days when the backup will be run Use this button to save the backup settings. The backup schedule will be automatically enabled. Use this button to clear or undo any changes made 3. 31 Edit Scheduled Backup Task Steps to Edit Scheduled Backup Task: 1. Move the scroll bar then locate the scheduled backup task to be changed, or click Now to see current scheduled backup. 2. 32 3. Click the Selected button. Edit the necessary options. NOTE: It is not allowed to have duplicated or overlapping backup time. Only one backup process can be running at a time. A scheduled backup is set to run within 30 minutes time frame. Scheduling another backup within a scheduled time is not allowed. 4. 33 Backup to RDX share <RDX_Recorder> Without enabled Internal RDX Backup each RDX media which was not used in the internal cube RDX drive will be automatically formatted to EXT3 format and mounted: Mounted RDX media will be available on Cube as RDX_Recorder share folder that can be available for external backup application or user access.
