1 Aiming to give a fillip to its broadband services, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) recently launched the Broadband for Every Home plan. The plan offers a broadband connectivity speed of 2 Mbps and is priced at Rs 300 for a year. According to company officials, the idea was to provide affordable broadband services to all categories of users and to encourage the uptake of MTNL s triband services. As expected, other operators were quick to follow suit. In the past few months, the market has been flooded with various high speed broadband packages at rock-bottom prices. Such initiatives seem to be paying off. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India s (TRAI) performance indicator report for the July-September 2011 quarter, the segment grew by per cent between September 2010 and September 2011, from million users to million subscribers. Nevertheless, the segment still has miles to go before any discernible change takes place. tele.net takes a look at the key broadband offerings of major service providers...
