2 Deadlines Goal: Finish college applications by Halloween so you don t miss deadlines All counselor recommendations, teacher recommendations, or transcript requests must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance of the college or scholarship deadline. Exceptions: Early Decision/Early Action due Friday, Oct. 2 nd All January deadlines due Friday, Nov. 13 th

3 I. Requesting Transcripts & Teacher Recommendations via Naviance Family Connection

4 If You Are Using the Common Application Over 600 colleges & universities accept the Common Application. If 2 or more of your colleges accept it, use it. First, create an account at CommonApp.org

5 Completing the Education Section ASFA s school code is Use the look up box to find and select ASFA in the list of schools

6 For anything college-related that asks for counselor information, use Mrs. Rutsky.

8 Complete the Common Application On Common Application (if you are using it), ASFA recommends that students select I waive my right to review Waiver

10 Naviance Family Connection Log into Naviance Family Connection naviance.com/asfa If you ve forgotten your password, use the forgot your password? link.

11 Complete the Common Application Under colleges tab at the top, select colleges I m applying to Enter your the address that you used to create your Common Application account. Make sure birthday matches what you entered in Common App. Click match button. Waiver on Naviance

12 Request Transcripts and School Reports Click request transcripts under colleges I m applying to You can do this even if you re not using the Common Application

13 Transcripts & School Reports Click lookup to select the name of each college to which you wish to send a transcript Select which type of decision plan (regular, early, etc.) Scroll down to bottom of the page and click request transcripts button to submit your request.

14 Teacher Recommendations Before sending a teacher recommendation request via Naviance, always speak in person with the teacher. Allow at least 2 weeks or more before deadline. Ask if the teacher prefers to send documents online or paper/snail mail.

15 Common Application ONLY Teacher Recommendations Note the following method is ONLY for requesting Common Application teacher recommendations Under Teacher Recommendations, click add/cancel requests

16 Common Application ONLY Teacher Recommendations Under Add new teacher requests, select the name of the teacher from the drop-down menu Use the Note box Tell the teachers to which colleges you need them to send recommendations because Naviance does NOT do this automatically Share any additional information that may be helpful.

17 II. Paper Transcripts and/or Recommendations If your college does not accept electronic transcripts or requires any paper forms to be completed 1. Fill out, sign and date the student information portion. 2. Bring the form along with an addressed business sized envelope and sufficient postage to the Student Services Center (3 rd floor). 2-3 stamps are recommended if mailing a recommendation letter. 1 stamp is sufficient if sending a transcript ONLY.

18 Where Should I Turn In Paper Forms/Envelopes? School Reports, Counselor/School Forms Enter transcript request in Naviance first. Bring paperwork to Mrs. Kennedy in the 3 rd Floor Student Center. Teacher Recommendations Provide teachers with forms with your student information section already completed, signed, and dated. Provide teachers with addressed, business-sized envelopes with sufficient postage.
