1 Position Description: Title: Hours: Award: Manager- Food For Thought- Eating Disorders Carer 20 hours/wk Social and Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHADS, incorporating the Qld Regulation and DIV 2B QCSCA) Classification: Level 6.1 Fixed Term: Fixed term part time position, August th June About the Food for Thought The objective of the Food for Thought s is to improve navigation of the service system by s of people experiencing eating disorders, through consultation, engagement, resource development and identification of organisational champions who can promote best practice in person and family centred care, and improvement of referral pathways for s of people with eating disorders. Position Overview The Manager is responsible for undertaking the Food for Thought project and has responsibility for project planning and implementation of key milestones. The Manager is required to have a broad understanding of the services delivered by Isis and EDA, as well as the eating disorder and mental health sector in Brisbane. The worker operates within a collaborative team environment that is committed to continuous improvement and best practice principles. The worker is also required to work within the goals and policies of Isis and EDA. The worker will also be responsible for project administration including record keeping, report writing, coordination of the project volunteers, managing expenses, preparation for acquittal. About Isis- The Eating Issues Centre Inc (Isis) and the Eating Disorders Association Qld (EDA): Isis The Eating Issues Centre Inc and the Eating Disorders Association are community based organisations providing therapeutic support groups and counselling, as well as information and referral services, to people with eating issues such as, anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating, and to their supporters and s. All service provision is underpinned by empowerment based, evidence informed approaches to working with and understanding eating issues. In using the term eating issue rather than eating disorder Isis holds the view that eating issues are a means by which some people respond to significant unresolved conflicts or issues in their lives. We acknowledge the multifaceted and interactive factors that contribute to the development of eating issues and seek to promote recovery, empowerment, connections and change on both individual and social levels. Service delivery includes therapeutic services, in conjunction with information and referral and education and training to the wider community. Working Principles Valuing Relationships, self-care, care and connection through engagement and capacity building Respectful recovery orientated, empowerment and strengths based processes that promote of empowerment, self-determination, inclusion and choice Promoting individual and social change as well as prevention
2 Valuing each person and lived experience Recognizing the interactive impact of individual factors, family factors (including genetics), socio cultural factors, and gender on the development, maintenance and prevention of eating issues. Key Responsibilities Ensure a thorough knowledge of the organisation s functions, proactively identifying and implementing systems improvements that will enhance service efficiencies and improve outcomes for s Coordinate the Isis Carer Champions Program, ensuring volunteers are provided with support, training and allocated tasks that match their skill sets and enhances the organisation s response. Consultation with s and design of resources for them and build the capacity of s of adults with eating disorders to better navigate the service system through: 1. Liaising with a social media expert to develop and launch a social media campaign in Body Image Eating Disorders Awareness Week (first week of September 2015) to engage s in exploring issues faced by adults experiencing eating disorders and by s supporting them. This campaign will provide data to inform further work and a platform for the marketing campaign (see below). 2. Consultation will occur with consumers and s on the resources that s would find most useful and would result in s being better able to support consumers. 3. Resources will be developed and further tested for s of adults with eating disorders that will build their capacity to navigate the service system and so improve outcomes for those they care for. Liaise with key service providers and health professionals to: 1. Encourage improved understanding of the issues faced by consumers and s; 2. Debunk harmful myths and narratives of blame such as parents causing eating disorders, and promote more positive attitudes and resources to more actively support and involve s, and promote early intervention. 3. Seek input to the resources we develop; 4. Identify champions who will seek to promote internal change within their own organisations, as well as distribute resources, and promote awareness of referral options and strategies for health professionals and service providers to improve responses across the service system; and 5. Ensure broad scale distribution of the resources. Develop a marketing campaign to publicise and distribute the resources developed, utlising the established social media platform as well as websites, publications and other media from partnering organisations. Liaison will occur with key service system points including consultants employed by Queensland Health, hospital professionals undertaking discharge planning and Medicare Local s Primary Care Liaison Officers. Reporting Relationships The Manager is relatively autonomous with responsibility for making day to day decisions regarding Program. This position reports to the Executive Manager, and to the Sub committee This position has no staff directly reporting; however will manage volunteers. Funding: This position is offered on a fixed term contract, funding by Brisbane North Medicare Locals, PiR program. Isis - The Eating Issues Centre Inc. (Isis) will be the legal entity contracting with Metro
3 North Brisbane Medicare Local. The project will be delivered jointly by Isis and the Eating Disorders Association (EDA) who have an existing partnership to deliver services. Collaboration between the two core agencies (Isis and EDA) is underpinned by an existing Collaborative Steering Committee. A Sub-committee to the Collaborative Steering Committee will be established to govern and manage Food for Thought that will include Coordinators of both organisations as well as consumer and representation. The Worker will be located at EDA, in Greenslopes. 1) Position Requirements/Selection Criteria Qualifications in Social Work, or other relevant degree, and or relevant experience in Mental Health and Human Services. Open Drivers License and eligibility for Blue card Demonstrated ability to undertake Management in a community based organisation utilising collaborative processes, and ability to work in line with the project plan attached to ensure outcomes achieved. Demonstrated knowledge of eating disorders, and physical, psychological and personal understanding of recovery. Demonstrated knowledge of eating disorder and mental health service sector in Brisbane An ability to develop effective and responsive consultations processes, develop resources and engage with social media and digital strategies in development of campaigns An ability to undertake participatory action research to develop and evaluate effectiveness of resources developed in eating issues. Identification of consultants and provision of project End of July Establish governance mechanism and project manageme nt. 3. Develop and implement social media campaign. 4. Develop resources. 5. Engage and liaise with key service system stakeholder s. briefing and orientation. Establish Sub-Committee including and consumer Mid June 2015 representation. Develop initial project plan and seek endorsement by Subcommittee. Mid-August 2015 reporting in place. Mid-August 2015 Consult with supplier for social media campaign. July 2015 Develop social media campaign. August 2015 Launch social media campaign during Body Image and September 2015 Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Implement social media campaign. September November 2015 Some components ongoing to allow for marketing of resource. Use social media platform to promote and distribute May 2016 resources. Undertake planning for consultation event to identify August - September 2015 options for development of resources. Hold consultation event. October 2015 Develop first draft of resources. November - December 2015 Focused testing of draft resources with: February 2016 Carers through follow up with specified group from consultation event; and Nominated champions from key points of service system. Incorporate feedback from testing (see above) and final End of February 2016 development and production of resources. Stakeholder engagement plan developed by Worker August 2015 including identification of key points of service system and of potential champions. Initial stakeholder engagement (including initial interviews September 2015 to feed into evaluation) undertaken. Identify champions to support work in key points of service October 2015

Support and contributions to resource launch; Options for distribution and promotion of resources; and Identification of distribution channels including websites, publications and social media. Preparation for promotional events (see below) to launch February April 2016 resources including: Identifying and confirming speakers; Event planning; Evaluation form developed; and Invitations distributed. Hold GP event to promote resources (e.g., May 2016 dinner/forum with medical speakers provided by EDOS), and showcase outcomes of innovative changes made by organisations and clinics in improving inclusive practice as a result of project. Launch of resources on International No Diet Day. 6 th May Evaluation. Development of initial evaluation instruments including September 2015 interview format and survey instruments. Development of further evaluation instruments. January 2016 Analysis of evaluation data and evaluation report prepared. June 2016 Evaluation finalised. June Grants administrati on and acquittal. Provision of interim report to Medicare Local. 31 st December 2015 Provision of final report. 8 th June 2016 Acquittal of grant. June 2016
