2 AD Nursing Beliefs AD Nurse Educators support the latest recommendation of the Carnegie Foundation for radical transformation in nursing education We are prepared to be positive & collaborative participants for change in nursing education We believe that Nurse Educators must choose our course of action for change but do not support legislation for Do not support legislation for BSN in 10 as that course of action

3 AD Nursing Beliefs AD Nurse Educators fully support BSN education for all RNs In partnership with other Nurse Educators we would like to investigate new & innovative ways to meet this outcome Original & inventive associations, partnerships & programs need to be initiated to make entry level or completion of the BSN straightforward, uncomplicated & automatic

4 What the Community Colleges & AD Nursing Educators Have to Offer AD Nursing Educators know non traditional students & their particular learning needs Community colleges have a full gamut of teaching/learning support services AD Nursing Educators offer entry level RN education with excellent outcomes at an affordable cost

9 Bridging the Preparation Practice Gap Disparity in preparation to practice was similar in graduates from both BSN and ADN (47% of each group) No apparent differentiation in readiness as measured by the 36 competencies

10 Management of responsibility competencies (6) all fell in the lower one third on proficiency for both BSN and AD preparations 50% of critical thinking competencies also in the lower third on proficiency for both groups

11 Alternatives to BSN in 10 Accelerated/second degree options Articulation agreements BSN at community colleges Dual Enrollments Non traditional course offerings/scheduling Statewide curriculum

12 Statewide Curriculum Mandated ADN statewide curriculum 8 states have adopted or are working on a statewide curriculum Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Montana, New Jersey, NorthCarolina Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin Avoid losing credits for transfer BSN programs assured of the preparation of AD graduates
